Overcoming Their Fear

The loud shriek from the zombie alerted the hundreds of others, and immediately, each of them turned their heads in Li Chen's direction.

"We can't wait any longer. Let's fight our way through."

Li Chen did not wait for Guiyin and Zho Wen as he charged toward the horde, raising his sword over his head.

Growl!

Sensing the fresh, thick vitality from Li Chen's blood, the zombies growled loudly and dashed toward him.

Whoosh!

Without using any special techniques, he hacked his sword down vertically, cleaving through the nearest zombie. Without stopping, he shifted his focus to the next.

He might not have any formal sword technique, but after hundreds of slashes and stabs, his ability to wield the sword against the zombies had become more refined.

At the back, Guiyin and Zho Wen were trembling, their chests rising and falling as they watched Li Chen battle against the horde.

"I need to join him…" Guiyin muttered, trying to summon her courage. Beside her, Zho Wen stared at the brave Li Chen, his heart pounding heavily.

What he hated most were the zombies. Staring at them made him remember how his parents had died helplessly to their claws.

'Father, Mother… I'll avenge you…' His eyes turned bloodshot, filled with vengeance.

Without hesitation, he picked up the heavy hammer and rushed toward the zombies. Seeing Zho Wen's retreating, Guiyin was stunned.

She thought she would be the first to follow Li Chen, but now she realized she was wrong.

With Zho Wen taking the lead, she knew she couldn't stay behind. Despite her fear, she rushed out of her hiding spot toward the zombies.

When Li Chen saw the two rushing toward him from the corner of his eye, his lips curled into a knowing smile.

He might act ruthless and bloodthirsty, but he knew that in such an apocalyptic world, companionship was a must if he wanted to survive and achieve his goals.

"Wen, to my right," he commanded, cleaving a zombie's head from its body.

Zho Wen didn't hesitate. He rushed to Li Chen's right, glaring at the oncoming zombies with a madness fueled by vengeance.

"Die!"

Raising the heavy hammer with both hands, he swung it with all his might at a zombie's head.

Bang!

When the heavy hammer collided with the zombie's skull, it smashed it to pieces, blood splattering across Zho Wen's face.

Huh!

He gasped and took a step back, wiping the blood off his face with the back of his hand.

"Forget about the blood! Keep smashing their heads!" Li Chen shouted from the side.

"Ah—yes, yes!" Zho Wen recovered from his daze and yelled back.

At that moment, he realized two zombies had already closed in on him, their large, jagged mouths nearing him.

His heart skipped a beat. Quickly, he grabbed his hammer and swung it at the closest zombie.

Smashing its head like a ripe tomato, he turned to the second one and delivered another crushing blow to its skull.

Killing three zombies in quick succession boosted his courage, making him realize the zombies weren't as deadly as he had imagined.

'I'm going to kill you all and avenge my parents.' He growled inwardly and charged forward to meet the next wave of zombies.

To the left, Guiyin, being an inner disciple from a powerful clan, knew sword techniques that could be used without spiritual energy, known as Qi.

Gracefully, she swung her thin sword, slicing through the heads of the zombies. Though repulsed by their appearance, she didn't hesitate to cut them down.

With Li Chen in the center, and Guiyin and Zho Wen on either side, they formed an impenetrable defense, gradually pushing the zombies back.

Ten minutes later, the trio had finally finished off all the zombies. Blood splattered across the ground, with innards and brain matter scattered everywhere.

Guiyin and Zho Wen, out of breath and covered in thick sweat, struggled to recover. Though they had managed to overcome their fear of the zombies, killing them was an entirely different challenge.

Guiyin had once been proud of her sword skills, but now, she wasn't so sure.

After killing several zombies, she noticed her sword had become dull, no longer as sharp as before, which took a toll on her delicate hands.

In addition to that, she had used much more strength than expected to achieve the desired killing blows.

As for Zho Wen, his hammer was already a blunt weapon, but its main drawback was its weight, which made it difficult to use continuously.

Seeing the two trying to catch their breath, an evil glint appeared in Li Chen's eyes.

"What are you doing? We need to harvest their crystals," he said, pulling a dagger from his thigh and plunging it deep into a dead zombie's heart.

Watching the gruesome scene, both Guiyin and Zho Wen took a deep breath, their stomachs churning, but they endured it and kept watching.

Cutting through the zombie's heart, Li Chen expertly retrieved the hidden red crystal from its chest.

"See? Wen, get to work." He commanded.

"Ah!" A shriek escaped Zho Wen's mouth as he realized what he was about to do.

He opened his mouth to protest, but when his eyes met Li Chen's cold, piercing gaze, he swallowed whatever he was going to say.

"Good." Li Chen nodded and motioned for Guiyin to follow him.

The two rushed into the restaurant to gather the supplies they needed. However, as they reached the entrance, they were accosted by three zombies in uniform.

Without hesitation, Li Chen sliced the three zombies to pieces and shouted, "Get all the food while I keep the zombies at bay!"

"Alright." Guiyin nodded and hurried to the back of the restaurant.

Ten minutes later, Li Chen and Guiyin emerged from the restaurant carrying heavy sacks.

Having just finished harvesting the red crystals from the zombies, Zho Wen stood with blood-covered hands.

"What are you doing? Go and carry your sack," Li Chen grinned, pointing to a large sack at the restaurant's entrance.

"Yes… Young master." Zho Wen responded and rushed to pick up the heavy sack, hoisting it onto his shoulder.

The trio left the street and hurried back to their chamber.
