'No,' scoffed the voice inside my head as my vision started to turn red around the edges. 'I'm telling you to breathe. Grab Tank's fur. Feel him under your hand. Concentrate on the movement of his muscles. How does he feel? How does he smell? Focus everyone on him and let the rest of the world drop away.'
'And if I don't want that?' I smirked even as I did what she asked. She had yet to lead me astray, and I was willing to concede the fact that not everyone here needed to die. My problem was that I just couldn't figure out why they needed to live, either.
After all, they were going on their merry way as underneath their feet, people were being locked in cages that wouldn't even fit Tank. All they cared about was themselves, and so… why did they need to live?
"You've stopped breathing," murmured Eric into my ear, unknowingly echoing the voice inside my head. "I need you to breathe for me, pretty girl."
