Maeve's words hung in the air, each syllable dripping with venom.

"I will get Layla to love me more than you."

I clenched my jaw, every muscle in my body tightening. The wind picked up, brushing against my skin and carrying the weight of the tension between us.

I wanted to laugh, shrug off her threat like it was nothing but something in her eyes told me she was serious. Maeve wasn't just trying to rattle me. She genuinely believed she could take Layla away.

"Good luck with that," I said, keeping my voice steady, almost bored.
