The night was like any other, but for Alex, it was the beginning of something far more sinister. He lay in his bed, staring at the glow of the stars through his window, their twinkling light a stark contrast to the dark cloud that hung over his mind. Sleep was a distant memory, replaced by visions that had come to haunt him for weeks.
In his dreams, a meteor blazed across the sky, a fiery harbinger of doom. It tore through the atmosphere, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. He could feel the heat radiating off it, hear the screams of panic that echoed in his ears. Each night, he woke in a cold sweat, the vivid images etched into his memory as if they were real.
As the clock ticked toward midnight, he turned to his side, desperate to escape the thoughts that consumed him. He thought about his friends, the team, the upcoming championship game—everything that mattered to him. But the dreams felt like a warning, a call to action, and he couldn't shake the feeling that time was running out.
The next morning, he walked into school, the weight of his dreams heavy on his shoulders. His friends were gathered at the entrance, laughter filling the air. They were oblivious to his turmoil, immersed in their own lives and the excitement of the game. Alex forced a smile, but inside, he felt the urge to scream.
"Hey, Alex! You ready for the big match?" his friend Jake shouted, throwing an arm around his shoulder.
"Yeah, totally," Alex replied, though his mind was elsewhere. He couldn't help but think about how trivial their worries seemed compared to the catastrophe he envisioned.
As they walked to class, Alex glanced at the sky, searching for any sign of the disaster he dreamed about. It was a clear day, the sun shining brightly, but he knew that beneath the calm exterior lay something more ominous.
Throughout the day, he tried to focus on his studies, but the images of the meteor kept surfacing. In History, while the teacher lectured about ancient civilizations, Alex couldn't help but think about how easily they had fallen—overlooked signs leading to their destruction. He felt a chill run down his spine as he wondered if he, too, was destined to ignore the warning signs.
At lunch, he sat with his friends, but his mind drifted. He watched as they joked and laughed, completely unaware of the impending doom that loomed in his subconscious. The cafeteria was filled with the aroma of pizza and fries, but all he could taste was the bitter dread that consumed him.
"Dude, what's up with you today?" Jake asked, concern creeping into his voice. "You're not yourself."
"I'm fine," Alex lied, forcing a smile. "Just a little tired."
"Long night?" another friend chimed in, nudging him. "Maybe you should take a break from all those late-night gaming sessions."
"Yeah, right," Alex replied, but the words felt hollow. Gaming was a distraction, a way to escape the reality he feared.
As the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, Alex made his way to the gym for practice. The sound of sneakers squeaking on the polished floor and the smell of sweat filled the air. It was a familiar comfort, a temporary reprieve from the turmoil within him.
But as he shot hoops with his teammates, each swish of the net felt like a countdown. The laughter and camaraderie were overshadowed by the knowledge that he had to do something. The visions had grown too strong to ignore, and with each passing day, he felt the urgency to warn others.
"Alex! Stop daydreaming and focus!" his coach barked, pulling him back to reality.
"Sorry, Coach," he mumbled, shaking off the fog that had settled over him.
That night, as he lay in bed, he felt the familiar pull of sleep. But instead of surrendering to the dark, he fought it, determined to stay awake. He had to find a way to warn the world, to make them believe him before it was too late.
As he closed his eyes, the fiery image of the meteor flashed before him once more. This time, however, it was accompanied by a voice—a whisper that promised despair but also a chance for redemption.
"Wake up, Alex. You're running out of time."
