Chapter 4: The Breaking Point

In the days following the game, Alex felt the weight of the world pressing down on him. The victory celebration felt like a distant memory as his dreams intensified, each one more vivid and terrifying than the last.

He tried to confide in Jake, but every time he opened his mouth, the words stuck in his throat. What if they think I'm crazy? The fear kept him silent.

At school, life continued as usual. Friends chatted, classes went on, and the world felt blissfully unaware of the impending disaster. Alex felt like a ticking time bomb, the pressure building inside him.

One afternoon, he sat alone in the library, trying to focus on his homework, but the visions refused to leave him. He could see the meteor, feel the heat, hear the screams. He dropped his pen in frustration, running a hand through his hair.

"Alex, is everything alright?" Mia's voice broke through his thoughts as she approached.

Why does she keep checking on me? "Yeah, just... overwhelmed, I guess."

"Want to talk?" she asked, sitting down across from him. "I'm a great listener."

Alex looked into her eyes, searching for any hint of judgment, but all he found was genuine concern. "It's just... I keep having these dreams. About a meteor crashing into Earth."

Mia's expression softened. "A meteor? That sounds intense. Do you think it means something?"

What does it mean? The thought lingered. "I don't know. It feels real, like a warning. I'm scared, Mia. I think something bad is going to happen."

Mia reached across the table, placing her hand over his. "You're not crazy, Alex. Sometimes our minds create scenarios to deal with our fears. But if it's really bothering you, maybe you should talk to someone who can help."

Help? Who could help me with this? "I don't think anyone would believe me."

"Maybe not, but you have to try. Keeping it bottled up won't do you any good," she said gently.

That night, as he lay in bed, he thought about Mia's words. Could I really talk to someone?

When sleep finally took him, the meteor appeared again, but this time, there was a sense of urgency in its descent. He awoke in a panic, drenched in sweat, his heart racing.

"I can't keep ignoring this," he whispered to himself. "I need to act before it's too late."
