"Additionally, the student pairings and their assigned teachers have already been decided in advance," Aizawa announced.
"These pairings were determined by the school based on multiple factors, including each student's behavior, academic performance, and… level of closeness."
"Closeness?"
Kyoka's cheeks turned slightly pink at that word. Her gaze unconsciously drifted toward Kaminari, standing beside her. "The teachers don't know about my relationship with Kaminari, do they? Does that mean we might be paired together?"
But then another thought crossed her mind. Actually… wouldn't that be a good thing? At least I'd have someone to rely on during the exam.
Aizawa continued, "Now, I'll announce the pairings."
The entire class tensed up, their nerves evident as they anxiously waited to hear their partners—and more importantly, which teacher they would be facing.
"First up, Midoriya Izuku and Bakugo Katsuki."
Aizawa's lips curled into the faintest smirk before he continued, "And your opponent… is me."
"What?! Why the hell am I paired with him?!" Bakugo exploded immediately, his face twisting in frustration. "How the hell do I look 'close' to this damn nerd?!"
Midoriya scratched his head awkwardly.
"It's precisely because your relationship is terrible that you've been paired together," Aizawa stated matter-of-factly. "You two are a special case. If you want to pass, you'll need to cooperate."
At that moment, Principal Nezu grinned and announced, "Now, let's go through the rest of the teams all at once!"
First match: Kirishima Eijiro and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu vs. Cementoss.
Second match: Tokoyami Fumikage and Asui Tsuyu vs. Ectoplasm.
Third match: Ojiro Mashirao and Iida Tenya vs. an industrial robot.
Fifth match: Uraraka Ochaco and Aoyama Yuga vs. Thirteen.
Sixth match: Ashido Mina and Yaoyorozu Momo vs. Principal Nezu.
"Principal?!" Ashido cried out in disbelief. Even Momo, usually composed, furrowed her brows in concern.
Meanwhile, Kaminari, observing the matchup, thought to himself, "A high-IQ battle, huh? This one's gonna be interesting."
Seventh match: Jiro Kyoka and Koda Koji vs. Present Mic.
Kyoka blinked, momentarily stunned, then felt a pang of regret. It would've been nice if I was paired with Kaminari…
She then paused, suddenly realizing something. Wait… who's Koda Koji again?
Kaminari, standing beside her, had a similar thought. He scanned the class before spotting a quiet, unassuming boy.
"Oh, right. That guy… his Quirk lets him talk to animals, doesn't it?"
But then, Kaminari's mind shifted to something more important.
"Forget him—Present Mic is their opponent?! That's not great. His Quirk is sound-based, just like Kyoka's, except way more powerful. Sure, he doesn't have her long-range eavesdropping ability, but in a direct fight, that won't matter. This matchup is rough for her."
"At least she has her combat gear now, so she should be prepared."
While Kaminari's thoughts raced, Aizawa continued announcing the matchups.
Eighth match: Shoji Mezo and Hagakure Toru vs. a third-year sniper instructor.
Ninth match: Mineta Minoru and Sero Hanta vs. Midnight.
Before Principal Nezu could even move on, Mineta shot up from his seat, practically vibrating with excitement.
"Did you hear that?! Did you hear that?! My opponent is Midnight-sensei! This is the best day of my life! I'm gonna tear her costume apart during the fight! Hahaha!!"
The room fell into a collective silence.
Midnight, smirking, ran a hand over the skintight material of her suit. "Oh? Is that so? Well then… if you think you can, go ahead and try, little Grape-boy. I'll be waiting."
Mineta immediately stopped laughing.
"Ahem." Nezu cleared his throat, bringing everyone's attention back. "Now, for the final matchup."
But before he could say it, the entire class had already turned their attention to Kaminari and Todoroki.
"Those two together? That's a ridiculously strong combo." Kirishima scratched his head. "I don't think any teacher here could hold them back."
"Yeah, and from what we've seen, every other teacher is already assigned. So… Kaminari and Todoroki's opponent must be—"
"IT'S ME!!!"
A powerful gust of wind swept through the area as a deep, booming voice rang out from above.
BOOM!
A massive figure crashed onto the ground, causing the students to stagger back slightly. As the dust settled, the unmistakable form of a tall, muscular man in blue, red, and yellow tights stood before them.
All Might.
His eyes locked onto Kaminari and Todoroki, his wide grin full of challenge.
"Your opponent is me!"
"All Might?!"
Kaminari and Todoroki's expressions finally cracked. For the first time, they looked genuinely caught off guard.
"Work together and defeat me, you two outstanding young men!" All Might flexed his right arm, then clenched his fist.
Kaminari stared at the towering figure before him, his heartbeat quickening—not from fear, but excitement.
"A fight against the Symbol of Peace… This is gonna be incredible."
For the longest time, Kaminari had trained relentlessly, pushing himself to new heights. Why? Because deep down, he had always craved the thrill of battling against the strongest.
And now, he had a chance to go up against the No. 1 Hero.
"How could I not be excited?!"
Nezu, unfazed by the rising energy in the room, clapped his paws together. "Now, let's go over the exam rules. The test will last thirty minutes. Your goal is to successfully place these handcuffs on your assigned teacher."
He held up a standard pair of police-style cuffs for emphasis.
"Alternatively, if at least one student from each pair successfully escapes the battlefield, their team will pass."
Tokoyami crossed his arms, thinking aloud. "So we either capture the teacher or flee the scene. It's similar to regular combat training."
"Wait, so we're actually allowed to run away?" Ashido asked, sounding surprised.
"Yep!" Nezu gave her a thumbs-up.
"But it's different from our usual combat training," Kaminari pointed out. "In our sparring sessions, we fight classmates. This time, we're going up against actual Pro Heroes. The difficulty is on a whole different level."
Present Mic grinned. "Exactly! That's the spirit, Kaminari!"
Thirteen, the space-suited hero, stepped forward. "This time, think of us not as your teachers… but as real villains."
