Special Request Function

"What's the match conditions?" Enzo asked, removing his trouser and kitting up.

Elian shrugged. "It's like every other 1V1 matches, we'll play for ten minutes, at the end of which the winner is the one with the highest goals scored, there will be no referee and we'll play with monkey posts.

Enzo nodded approvingly. "That's mediocre terms just like you."

Elian laughed at that, then he swore inwardly. "I'll make sure to beat this damned boy!"

Enzo seemed to read his thoughts but he didn't say anything else, he just grinned at Elian. He was going to show him just how much the difference between them was.

They set the timer and arranged the posts with a few thirty yards in between them.

They handed the timer over to Carson and told him to start it.

"Take the ball, you're the inferior one here, so it's only natural that I give you the honor of starting with the ball."

Elian nodded. "Let's see who the inferior one really is after this."

Pii!

Carson simulated a whistle sound with his mouth, signifying that their time had started counting.

Elian dashed forward, counting his steps and using an intricate footwork to try and confuse Enzo. But just as he had thought, Enzo, like most center forwards, Enzo was a shadow marker.

Enzo stepped backwards, following Elian's rhythm with his eyes. His eyes seemed to read meaning into every movement that Elian made.

He kept on stepping back as Elian came forward, continuously dribbling his way forward. He didn't keep the ball in one place, to avoid Enzo's eyes getting conversant with his rhythm and easily countering his movements. It was the first skill he learnt as a Right Forward, but he was also taught something alongside it.

This only worked on people who didn't have keen observation skills, those who possessed observation skills would easily find his rhythm and counter faster than he thought was possible.

"Too Mediocre!" Enzo harrumphed coldly as he stuck his leg towards the ball, accelerating speedily.

Elian gasped as all he saw was the flash of Enzo's leg and the ball was stolen away from him without the slightest resistance or attempt to shield the ball from Elian.

The moment Enzo stole the ball, he hopped backwards with the ball, giving himself space and time to recover.

Elian furrowed his brows. He didn't understand what just happened or how it even happened. All he knew was that he had been in control of the ball, moving it in different directions to confuse his opponent, but his opponent had managed to breach his security and even steal the ball from right under his nose, without the slightest reaction from him.

Elian stepped backwards too, he was also a shadow marker. He left a space in between both of them so he would have time to block Enzo's body before stealing the ball.

He assessed Enzo's physique, he felt like he would be stronger than the boy.

Enzo paused, still studying Elian. Even though he had managed to win the ball now, he knew it was only because of his light j g fast reflexes and Elian was quite something, definitely not the mediocre player he thought he was.

Enzo suddenly moved, dashing at high speed towards Elian. Elian was taken aback by the sudden outburst, he tried to follow up, but Enzo suddenly switched lanes with a quick lane changer skill, he moved onto the left wing.

Elian turned sharply, Enzo was moving too fast for him to follow easily, even with his game reading running on full throttle, he still couldn't keep up and was always a step short.

Enzo moved again and Elian thought he had seen the perfect opening. Elian stretched his foot towards the ball, he was going to knock it off Enzo…or so he thought.

Enzo suddenly pulled backwards, causing Elian's leg to swipe the air. Elian allowed the weight of his leg to propel him around, using the pressure to turn around.

But the little moment when Elian was backing him was enough for him to run forward, skipping past Elian.

Elian turned around, but it was already a bit too late, Enzo had gained the upper hand. Elian bodied him, trying to shake Enzo's balance, but he was stunned by the thickness of Enzo's body, he was bounced away instead.

But Elian wouldn't give up that easily, he tried again with double the force but it seemed to get worse as Enzo also quacked him, the impact sent Elian spiraling in shock to the floor.

Enzo passed the ball into the empty net and turned around to face Elian who was one the floor, his hand on his hair.

"Tsk. How mediocre indeed."

Amir and Carson stared on in helplessness, they had already known the outcome of this 1V1 before it even started. They suddenly felt foolish for even entertaining vain hope for a second there.

Elian got up slowly, he wasn't disheartened in any way. He had used his beginner skills and to be honest, it would have really been disappointing if he had beaten Enzo that easily. The only thing that truly impressed him was Enzo's footwork and his strength.

Enzo didn't look half as strong as he was, Elian would have never guessed Enzo was that much stronger than him.

"Meta." Elian called out.

"Yeah?"

"How does the system generate skills? I remember you saying something about you researching new skills and creating skills…?"

"That's correct." Meta answered.

Elian nodded. "So, is there a skill that allows me to preview a player's stats? A skill that would allow me assess how good a player is according to the system's standards."

Meta was silent for a second. "Such a skill currently doesn't exist, but…it can be created. By using the system's special request function."

"What's a special request function?" Elian asked, surprised by the unfamiliar term.

Meta explained quickly. "It's a system feature that allows you to make special requests to the system, asking for something. It could be a new skill or whatever you wish for, so far as it's soccer related."

Elian nodded. "That sounds quite good, but I haven't unlocked it yet, have I?"

Meta responded in the negative. "No, of course not."

"How do I unlock it?" Elian asked, setting the ball in place to begin. He was buying time so he could concentrate on his conversation with Meta.

Meta replied. "You have to reach Level 10 first. And when you do so, you would only unlock the mission set you have to accomplish to be able to use the function."

"What mission sets? What is their nature?" Elian asked.

Meta spoke quickly. "They are very difficult tasks, you could be asked to score a hatrick of free kicks from over 30 yards in a single match.

Elian inhaled deeply. He had gotten most of all the information he needed. He was elated by the idea of the special request function and he just had to reach level 10 to have a shot at it.

But the idea of scoring a hattrick of free kicks from over 30 yards was just too extreme, it was almost impossible.

Meta quickly gave him coaching advice as he saw that Elian was about to go against Enzo again. "Don't try to use flashy skills against him, a simple ball holding game would work. You might not want to use the system skills early so just hold onto the ball possession for as long as possible. It'll naturally make him agitated since he'll be losing the bet and he'll be forced to mark harder, not just simply shadow marking."

Elian controlled the ball forward, he wasn't in a hurry at all as he kicked the ball forward, playing with it. Enzo was a fantastic player, he was already able to ascertain that. He would have to battle with Enzo for the position of striker if he was to sign to their Senior team.

Enzo sneered as he donned a lackadaisical look, as if he couldn't wait to get this over with. But in reality, he was as alert as ever. He had been able to see that Elian wasn't a mediocre player as he had thought (but was he to admit this? After already falling out with his friends.), so if he didn't want to get dribbled badly, he had to stay at alert.

Elian moved the ball left and right, staring at Enzo as if trying to dribble him. Enzo too, watched him intently, he didn't quite understand Elian's rhythm or what Elian was playing at.

It looked to him like Elian was just moving the ball back and forth without any plans in mind, but this only made him more weary of Elian since he now even thought that Elian was able to camouflage his thoughts.

It was until Carson announced that they only five minutes more that Elian flashed him a crooked smile, his intentions and message clear as day.

It was then that Enzo realized that he had been played all along. Elian didn't actually have any thing in mind, he simply wanted to pass time.

Enzo gritted his teeth as he sprang forward, sticking his foot out towards the ball.

But Elian was expecting this, now more than ever. Elian moved very fast, he slid the ball out of the way and it was then he saw it.

Enzo's leg was wrapping around itself like a hook, if the ball had been there, Enzo would have gotten a perfect steal on the ball.

Elian smiled brightly as his eyes lit up.
