"So, let me get this straight," Thorne said, leaning back in his creaky wooden chair. He crossed his arms with an exaggerated air of disbelief, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. "You saved the Queen from an incurable disease, killed a mythical Kraken of all things, and made it back here, in one piece, all in just ten days." He paused for dramatic effect, his brown eyes narrowing as he leaned forward. "Are you absolutely sure you're human? Because, honestly, I'm starting to have some doubts."

Jacob rolled his eyes and pushed Thorne's face away as the man leaned in closer, his expression insufferably amused. "You missed the part where I spent a whole damn week in bed, and how my right arm felt like hell," Jacob said, though his tone held more exasperation than actual anger.
