Jacob grumbled under his breath as the carriage lurched forward, the wheels bumping against the uneven dirt road. He leaned back against the plush seat, arms crossed over his chest, his scowl firmly in place.
"I still don't understand why my presence was required for this meeting with the delegation from Theran," he muttered, his frustration evident in his voice.
Beside him, Eleanor let out a soft chuckle, reaching out to place a reassuring hand on his thigh. The warmth of her touch did little to soothe his irritation. Across from them, Loriel sat with her arms crossed, her sharp gaze flitting between the two of them.
