Substitute Rival

The night had fallen over the demonic sect, and Meng Qingshan's room was quiet, save for the faint sounds of the distant night creatures. The dim light of a solitary candle flickered, casting erratic shadows across the room.

Meng Qingshan had collapsed onto the floor, his body curled up and trembling. His mind was in turmoil, the crushing weight of betrayal and panic overwhelming him. He was lost in a storm of emotions, unable to think clearly or find solace.

Sua Quan, having noticed Meng Qingshan's absence from the usual evening activities, had grown concerned. She knocked lightly on his door, but received no response. Her worry grew as she gently pushed the door open and entered the room.

As she stepped inside, her eyes immediately fell on Meng Qingshan, who was slumped against the wall, his face buried in his hands. Her heart sank at the sight, and she hurried over to him.

"Meng?" Sua Quan's voice was soft and full of concern. She knelt beside him, gently placing a hand on his shoulder. "What's wrong? Why are you like this?"

Meng Qingshan's body shook with silent sobs, the mask he usually wore for others slipping away. He looked up at Sua Quan, his eyes filled with pain and fear. For a moment, he was unable to find the words to explain his distress.

"I—" Meng Qingshan began, his voice barely above a whisper.

Sua Quan's concern deepened. "What? You can tell me."

The dam within Meng Qingshan broke, and he found himself spilling out everything he had been holding back. "I— I'm not Meng Qingshan. I'm not even Chen Ming. My real name is Chen Ning. I'm the brother of Chen Ming."

Tears streamed down Meng Qingshan's face as he spoke, his voice cracking with each word. "I thought I could act like my brother to protect his reputation, but I'm just pretending. And now, I overheard what General Liu said about me. He called me a tool for them." Meng Qingshan's sobs grew more intense, his body shaking with the weight of his confession. "I trusted him. I thought he was my ally. But now... now I don't know who to trust anymore."
