Our last chance

Remembering everything gives you a mixed feeling of relief and hatred; for some, it's a silver lining of hope to start anew with their persons, to once again feel the good things they shared together, create good new memories, and hopefully last for a lifetime.

For a few, it's like saying goodbye for the ninth time, trying to suppress the fear and despair inside of them. Letting everything go—pain, happiness, and the bond—trying to heal the unhealing wound. Hoping it will get better as time passes by, and eventually it will.

And for rare occasions, there are those who are in between, standing in the red, thin line of hope and despair, carefully weighing the consequences of the path they'll be willing to take. Could they ever start anew with this person? Or will they ever move on from this person? Or worse, will they be stuck in this place forever?

Just in there, standing in between these choices, while the rest of the world continued moving and changing—she might be physically there, breathing, but lifelessly living.

Unable to move forward at all.

Rebecca, uninterestedly looking at the window of her hospital room, her dark orbs look more dead than ever—it seems all the life in those eyes got terribly sucked until the last drop.

Left to wither. Forgotten. And might cease to exist.

But she's still there, fighting the inner chaos of despair for her children—trying to understand the voices inside her mind.

What does she really want?

Why keep chasing the man that made her lose everything for him?

Just why?

For the sake of their children?

Will that be enough reason to forget everything that they've done to her?

Rebecca sighed and looked up at the dark gray clouds. "You always showed up when things felt like hell, didn't you?" she paused. "But... you know, it somehow feels good," a faint smile painted on her face.

It feels good to have something beside you when your world starts to crumble.

"Mrs. Aldine? It's time for your next test; shall we?"

An Asian nurse smiled at her and politely gestured to the next door for her next medical test.

"Thank you, and by the way, my last name is not Aldine; it's Ali." She says, "Oh! Sorry about that; they might have incorrectly registered your name in the system." The nurse scanned the piece of paper she's holding, trying to find the error from it.

"Yeah, I guess my friend just forgot to change my last name." She shyly smiled while making her way inside the room.

After a couple more tests, it was finally over. It's past four noon now, and the golden light from the sky is softly peaking through the thick window glass of the hospital.

"Thank you for today, uhm." "Mia, my name is Mia; should I accompany you on your way back?" The nurse, Mia, offers to help Rebecca since her face obviously shows exhaustion and the sharp pain she's feeling inside her stomach. "I'd love to, but I wonder if I can stay at the garden for a few minutes; the weather outside seems refreshing too." Rebecca's been stuck inside her room for a few days now, and weird thoughts are also starting to crawl inside her mind.

She thinks a little bit of sunshine on her skin will brush away the sadness and longing she's feeling for her children.

She misses the triplets so much that she's up till dawn.

"Well, the doctor says you absolutely need a rest, but witnessing what you had been through this day will make me feel bad for not letting you breathe. I'll just check the other patients and will get you as soon as I'm done. Don't go anywhere aside from the garden, or we will both be in trouble," she jokingly says to her, which made Rebecca smile. "Thank you, Mia."

The afternoon breeze gently touched Rebecca's skin, and the warmth of the sun made her feel more at ease. A feeling of someone's hug. Tenderly comforting.

A few minutes soaking under the sun made Rebecca's mind clearer.

The tangerine color of the sky with the touch of gold and white, plus the setting sun, made the view breathtaking; it felt so unreal, like looking at the most interesting piece of art at the gallery. Without the silhouette of the flying birds towards the other side, this scene will probably look like a painting that captured a lot of attention.

Magnificent!

This kind of moment is what Rebecca's always thankful for; she thanks the creator for giving her a chance to witness such beautiful scenery during her lifetime.

However, she kind of feels delighted and bitter at the same time.

Because it will always remind her of the lost dream she once had.

And if she were not just as foolish as she was ten years ago, or if she just put herself first before Winston, she could have been more than just a Mrs. Aldine.

Rebecca always wants to be a painter or have a career in the art industry. After all, she loves to paint and draw. She doesn't blame Winston that much though, because she knows, partially, that it's her fault for dedicating a decade of her life to Winston.

For loving someone beyond everything else.

A dangerous kind of love, since it consumed everything she was.

Rebecca took a deep breath before deciding to get up since the sky was starting to dim and Mia was taking so long to come and pick her up.

Before she could even take a step forward, a familiar black car stopped in front of the hospital building, a few miles away from her. She doesn't know why but she also stopped and stared.

It took a few seconds before the driver's seat's door opened and a man in a polo shirt and satin pants stepped out; he hurriedly opened the passenger seat door and wrapped his arms around the waist of a brunette woman.

Rebecca's heart sank as she realized the people before her eyes.

It was her ex-husband and his ex-girlfriend.

As they are waiting for the staff to bring a wheelchair, Winston suddenly looks in her direction. Rebecca is taken aback and is ready to run in the opposite direction, but something pulls her back and pins her feet to the ground, like a whisper in her ears telling her to wait for a couple of seconds.

Their eyes met and even though there is a distance between them, she could still feel the emotions she has for Winston, and although she remembers him as a cold-hearted person, surprisingly, there is a look of surprise and worry beneath his brown eyes.

She doesn't know what to feel; her mind and heart suddenly fell to confusion. But what she knew is, it still hurt her seeing them together.

Her vision becomes blurry and as she tried to step back, she felt the presence of someone behind her. A familiar scent lingers in her nose.

Van gently covered Rebecca's eyes and tenderly wrapped his arms around her shoulder.

Rebecca felt safe, and deep down in her, she knew that she was ready to let go now.

Winston, on the other hand, watching everything unfold in front of him, was annoyed, and something was aching inside of him.

A flood of questions is starting to flow in his mind. From what Rebecca's doing here to who that man is tenderly holding her.

And for the first time in a while, he can't control his emotions. He unconsciously removed his hands from Ara and was ready to go in their direction when one of the staff interrupted him.

His fist is folded, and his face shows nothing but anger. Ara felt a bit scared but still managed to ask him, "W-what's wrong, Win?" Winston looked at her a second before looking back to Rebecca's direction, but she wasn't there anymore.

He couldn't explain what this sudden emotion he is going through right now is; all he knows is he is in a deep feeling of loss and annoyance, and something is aching, but why?

"Nothing." He shortly replied to Ara before walking past her and directly going to the receptionist of the hospital. Ara followed him while calling his name. "Tell me, is there a patient named Rebecca Aldine?" he asked in his demanding tone; the receptionist immediately typed the name and answered Winston nervously, "Y-yes sir, there is." "Room." He shortly replied, "M-may I know your relationship with the patient?" the staff asked; without thinking twice, he immediately answered, "Husband, where is my wife?"

At that very moment all he can think about is Rebecca, nothing else and no one else.
