A Fractured Promise

At the dinner table,

Xavier and Sarah sat at opposite ends of the dinner table.

Xavier couldn't take the silence any longer and decided to break it.

"Look, it's your favorite: beef spaghetti, baked pasta, fries, and iced tea," Xavier said, smiling.

"Hmm." Sarah simply nodded before digging in.

However, Xavier didn't lose hope because of the cold shoulder.

"So, how was the trip? If I'm not wrong, your school took you to Hafz City. The second city of our Barony of Dahaka." Xavier said.

"Yes," Sarah again replied with a small nod.

"Did you enjoy the trip?" Xavier asked.

"Yes," Sarah nodded.

"Then, how is it compared to our Reda City, the capital city of the Barony? Oh! And did you bring me a souvenir?" Xavier asked.

Sarah frowned and glared at Xavier.

"Can we please not talk while eating?" Sarah said.

Hearing this, Xavier's smile faded.

'Haah... teenagers.'

"Fine," Xavier said and continued eating.

After that, none of them spoke a single word.

However, the moment they finished eating, Xavier opened his mouth.

"I'm leaving this place." He said.

Sarah's eyes widened in shock. She looked at Xavier with disbelief.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"Exactly what I just said."

"Clarify."

"I'm leaving the Barony of Dahaka."

"What? Why?" Sarah asked.

"Simple. I got accepted into Creton University." Xavier replied.

"What? How?"

"Well, I guess they liked my application."

"What about your current university?"

"I've already talked to the administration, They agreed and will also take care of the paperwork." He said.

"Then, what about the money? Creton University is very expensive. How do you plan on paying them?" She asked.

"I don't need to." He replied.

"What does that mean?"

"I've got a hundred percent scholarship."

"What?" Sarah was shocked.

Her shock was valid because Creton University was known for its strict scholarship requirements.

"So that means we'll be moving? What about my school?" She asked.

"You don't need to change schools." He said.

"Huh? Why? Did you not just say you'll be going to the Viscounty of Creta to study in the Creton University over there? If so, then I'll also need to change schools. That'll be a big hassle."

"As I said. You're not changing schools. It's because I will go there alone. You'll be staying here and continuing your studies." Xavier answered.

"What? You'll be going there alone?" She asked in surprise.

"That's what I just said. Are you having hearing problems?" Xavier said.

Sarah gritted her teeth before speaking.

"Don't screw with me! What do you mean you're going to a completely different place all alone! What about me!? Aren't we supposed to be an inseparable duo! What about your promise to never leave me!? Was that just a lie!?" Sara screamed in anger, her eyes glaring daggers at Xavier as if they'd rip him to shreds.

"Sarah calm down. You've got to listen to me." Xavier said trying to calm her down.

However, it only made Sarah even more angry.

"Calm down? What calm down!? To hell with that! You're going to leave me, and I'm supposed to calm down? What kind of shitty joke is this?"

"No, you're not going anywhere! You're going to stay here with me! Forever! I'll tie you up if you don't listen to me!" Sarah said her golden eyes turning into black holes.

BANG

"Sarah Lee!!" Xavier shouted as he slammed his hand on the table.

"...!" Sarah froze upon hearing Xavier shout at her.

Tears welled in her eyes as she ran to her room, shouting over her shoulder.

"I hate you!"

BANG

She closed the door behind her.

Xavier just sat there his heart feeling heavy.

"No, Xavier. Snap out of it. You can't let this get to you." Xavier shook his head.

"Haah... mom I really wish you were here." Xavier sighed and closed his eyes.

A few years ago,

A young teen with black hair was riding on a black airboard. He wore a white T-shirt, a sleek black jacket, dark pants, and a pair of red sneakers as he flew through the air.

"Woohoo!" The teen shouted in excitement.

2 minutes later,

He neared a simple house.

Whoosh

He stopped before the gate and pressed the doorbell.

Creak

A creaking sound echoed as the door opened to reveal a woman.

She had long brown hair tied into a ponytail, black eyes, long lashes, red lips and a slim figure that radiated grace. She was about a hundred and seventy centimeters tall.

"Goodness gracious, Xavier. Where were you all this time?" She asked with a frown.

"I'm sorry, mom. I was just playing a bit" Xavier answered.

"Whatever, just get in first." She said.

The teen Xavier listened to his mom and got in with his airboard on his hand.

"Big brother!"

BANG!

"Oof!"

As soon as he stepped inside, a blur of yellow barreled into him, knocking him to the floor.

Xavier focused his eyes and saw a girl with blonde hair who looked to be around eleven years old.

"Sarah, could you get off from me?" Xavier said seeing that Sarah tightly clutched onto him with no intention of moving.

"No! Big brother will leave if I let him go!" The young Sarah shook her head in refusal.

"Sarah you've got-"

"No! You need to promise me!" Sarah screamed before Xavier could finish what he was saying.

"Haah... fine, fine, I promise to never abandon you, and be inseparable. Now, let go of me."

A beautiful smile blossomed in Sarah's lips.

"Fine. Since you promised I'll let you go. However, never break this promise." She said and got up from him.

"Seriously you two, stop behaving like children." Xavier's mom said as she began walking towards the kitchen.

"But Aunty Anna, I'm still a child." Sarah complained and puffed her cheeks like a squirrel.

"Yes, yes." Anna said before entering the kitchen.

Xavier also got up from the floor and went to his room.

He placed the airboard on top of a strange black-white circular plate.

The edge of the airboard faintly glowed as it began to charge up.

Xavier turned around and saw a white furball on his bed.

"Haah... if only my life was as simple as yours, Jaffar." Xavier said to himself as he saw Jaffar sleeping without a care in the world.

He walked to his desk, sat on the chair and turned on his laptop and began his work.

A/N: For those of you wondering what a flying airboard is, it's just a hoverboard capable of flight.
