KIERAN

Harriet didn't survive the crash. 

Her breathe left her body long before we even reached the hospital. 

I could swear that I almost felt it, the moment she lost the fight, and a cold, suffocating emptiness spread through me.

My hands trembled as I watched helplessly as the paramedic's hands moved frantically over her, trying to revive her, but it was all in vain. My heart shattered into jagged pieces, each one cutting deeper than the last.

Harriet was gone.

Edwina was still hanging on, still holding on for dear life, but her best friend was gone.

Before the ambulance arrived, as I stared at the crashed car, I had lost all sense of reasoning.

 I had almost slipped into the dark abyss, the shock of seeing my bride's unmoving body crushed beneath the weight of her car threatening to swallow me whole.
