CHAPTER 123

EDWINA

My chest buckled with the weight of what Juliette just said. I staggered back, my hands flying to my mouth.

A cold sense of dread filled me, threatening to burst out of my pores and overwhelm me.

Harriet was my best friend.

My best friend was in the car with me when I got into an accident.

My best friend didn't survive the crash.

Harriet died and I survived, with barely any memory of the life I used to live.

She had been dead for over six months, and I was not even present for her burial.

Guilt settled on me, an heavy weight that was slowly seeping into my bones.

The worst part? I would not be able to honor the life she had with me, because I do not remember any of it.

All I had was pictures and some memory flash that lasted for less than a minute.

"Edwina…" Kieran started to say, but I raised my hand to stop him.
