KIERAN
During those few moments when the monitor kept making that sound, I felt like I was dying.
My heart constricted in my chest.
I knew, without saying, that if my wife did not survive that moment, that if the doctor looked back at me and shook his head with regret, I would keel over and die.
Right there and then. I would go over to join her, because I seriously could not imagine a life without her.
I stood at a spot, frozen. Waiting for the doctor to look at me.
But when he did, he didn't shake his head. Instead, a small smile played on his lips.
"She's stable now. Thank goodness. I am also happy to inform you that your wife is no longer in a coma. I believe the worse is over. She is sleeping right now," he said, patted me on the shoulder, and walked out with his entourage of nurses.
