Chapter 12: The Esteemed Master of the Capital

Jian Laotai comforted Jian Yiling again, saying, "Alright, my little darling, you've acknowledged your mistake. Just remember, you mustn't make the same error again! If someone outside makes you angry next time, don't be so impulsive. If you're unsure how to handle it, come talk to me." Her concern for her granddaughter was palpable; it was clear that her protective nature was unmatched, especially when it came to Jian Yiling.

After their meal, Jian Yiling and Jian Shuxing stayed in the Jian family home to enjoy dinner together. Once they finished eating, they all gathered to savor some tea, a cherished tradition in the family that brought warmth and comfort after the evening meal.

During this peaceful moment, Jian Laotai suddenly brought up an important matter concerning Hengyuan City. "I heard that a certain esteemed master from the capital has recently arrived in our Hengyuan City?" His tone was grave, and while he didn't explicitly mention names, Jian Shuxing instantly understood whom he was referring to. The mention of such a significant figure could only point to one person.

"Indeed, he has come," Jian Shuxing confirmed, already aware of the news circulating among their circles. The information had been intentionally leaked by the Zhai family in the capital, a strategic move designed to heighten the awareness of this esteemed individual's presence in Hengyuan City.

"Then be cautious and keep your distance. The master from the Zhai family is someone you absolutely must not offend; any mishap could lead to significant trouble." Even Jian Laotai expressed deep concern about this situation, his brows furrowing as he spoke.

"Don't worry, Dad. I'm well aware of the implications," Jian Shuxing replied, his mind racing with thoughts of the possible ramifications. "But what I don't understand is why the Zhai family is so anxious about him. Although he's the only heir, he's already an adult and should be more than capable of handling himself…"

Jian Shuxing found the Zhai family's protective nature toward their child perplexing.

Jian Laotai sighed, a hint of sadness creeping into his voice. "You see, this esteemed Master Sheng is not just the only child of the Zhai family; he has a congenital heart condition. If things go awry, his life could be at stake. The Zhai family has gone to great lengths to ensure his safety."

This revelation was news to Jian Shuxing, who had only heard snippets of information. Jian Laotai had learned this detail from a close friend in the capital, and it was common knowledge among those who moved in elite circles.

"Also, I've heard that this Master Sheng has connections to Tianxing Group. With his visit to Hengyuan City, I received communications not only from the Zhai family but also from the Tianxing Group," Jian Shuxing added, his brow furrowed in concentration as he pieced together the connections.

Jian Laotai nodded knowingly. "The one in charge of Tianxing Group is none other than the Zhai family's second master, who happens to be Master Sheng's uncle. Years ago, this second master was quite the reckless character, often causing trouble and accumulating enemies. Once, when his foes came to settle scores, his elder brother died trying to save him. It was then that he decided to change his ways. Feeling indebted to his brother, he has remained unmarried all these years, dedicating himself to raising his nephew instead. He has even publicly declared that his business empire will eventually be handed down to Master Sheng."

This explanation provided insight into a relationship that few outside of the capital would understand. Jian Laotai had learned of this background from old friends, providing context that made the Zhai family's apprehension understandable.

Jian Shuxing pondered the implications. "I had no idea the Tianxing Group and the Zhai family were so intricately linked." His surprise was evident, as both the Zhai family and Tianxing Group possessed a level of influence and power far beyond what the Jian family could match.

Meanwhile, Jian Yiling sat quietly beside them, sipping tea delicately. She listened attentively to the conversation between her father and grandfather, her mind racing with thoughts of the capital.

The name Zhai resonated in her mind, bringing forth vivid recollections from the stories she had read. She suddenly connected the dots—"Is it him?" she thought, her heart racing.

It was the malevolent antagonist of the story! This was the very person who posed the greatest threat to the male protagonist upon his return to the capital.

Images of the cunning and ruthless character flooded her thoughts, and she could feel the tension in the air shift. It was as if she had just stumbled upon a pivotal point in her narrative, realizing the dangerous path that lay ahead for both her family and the broader world around her.

The implications of this encounter loomed large, and Jian Yiling felt a mix of fear and determination. This could affect not just her family but the entire fabric of their community. As she sat there, she made a silent vow to navigate this treacherous situation with wisdom and grace, hoping that she could play a role in protecting her loved ones from the darkness that threatened to engulf them all.

In this moment, the weight of legacy, family, and responsibility pressed upon her young shoulders, but she was determined to rise to the challenge.
