*Lena*
I was vibrating in place. Whether from anger, fear, or nerves, I couldn’t tell at this point. Every muscle in my body was tight, strung out like a live wire about to snap. My thoughts raced, colliding with one another in a jumble of panic. My hands, clenching and unclenching at my sides, felt clammy.
The room suddenly felt too small like the walls were pressing in on me. How could he do this to me? Invite his family—tonight, of all nights? I wasn’t ready. Hell, I didn’t know if I’d ever be ready.
Eason’s brown eyes were soft as he turned my gaze to him like he already knew how hard this was going to be for me. His hand stayed on my cheek, his thumb stroking gently. "Lena, I need to settle this tonight. You keep running away from the idea of meeting them again. I know you're scared, but if we don't get through this now, it'll hang over us like a cloud."
