Chapter 38: Will You Help Me?

Immediately, I was put off. How was this creature supposed to protect Esmerelda? This was the exact creature I was trying to protect her from. After I had held her in my arms, there was nothing that I wouldn’t protect her from.

That included the bloodsucker in front of me, even if I had to impale him with the Rowan growing outside the school.

“You know what,” I sneered at him, “never mind. I wanted to ask you about Esmerelda, but I was mistaken. You were the one who allowed the vampires to get that close to hurting her the last time. I don’t know what to expect from you helping her now.”

I saw that my words got to the vampire. He got off his seat immediately, his eyes hardening.

“That night,” Elijah began, his hands clenching at his sides, “that chaotic night was the last time I had even been in the classroom, let alone around Esmerelda. If she is in danger again now, I was not the one to cause it. I have purposefully been staying away from her to protect her.”
