The Fall Of Brookville

June 7th

As the sun set over Brookville, casting a golden glow over the still and quaint town, I gazed out of my window, sensing an eerie calm. The streets were empty, except for scattered groups of townsfolk huddled in whispers- as usual. They always loved to catch up on the town's latest gossip after a busy day.

Well, I couldn't blame them. There was a new rumor in town and everyone was very curious about the latest developments.

The past few days were cool, our graduation ceremony was awesome and yeah, Tony was the valedictorian. I was beyond happy for him and I cheered him on as he made his speech.

"Hmm...what's happening? I heard there's a new rumor in town and it's huge." Carl asked, picking his teeth.

"I don't know, I'm not too sure. I heard some people say that they saw a stranger, in the abandoned windmill in the outskirts of town-" Jamie started as Tony scoffed.

"That's why I don't listen to rumors. And so what if they saw a stranger at an abandoned windmill?" He asked.

"I don't know. Besides, remember we've been seeing some shady looking hefty guys around more than usual." Lissa pointed out.

"Yeah, Brookville is a small town and it's very easy for us to know anything that goes on in it." I said.

"Including Ravenshire island as a whole." Ray said.

"I don't know if this relates but do you guys remember yesterday, I bumped into a tall, brooding man who's eyes seemed to bore right through my skull and his aura was intimidating? "I asked, remembering that incident. I was returning from the store and I had just rounded a corner when I bumped into him. I didn't bother assessing him; I quickly scurried away. He was followed by two huge bodyguards and as I ran off, I heard one say, "Mr. Kyros...."

"Yeah, yeah. I remember you said that." Ray said.

"I don't know- I just feel like something bad's gonna happen- way too soon." Lissa said as she shuddered.

I hesitated, unsure how to explain the impending doom. "Let's just stay inside. It'll be okay."

But it wouldn't be okay. Those Kyros' army had been marching towards Brookville for days, leaving destruction in its wake as I later found out, and the town's defenses were no match for the warlord's ruthless tactics.

Suddenly, a loud explosion shook the house. My heart raced as i rushed to the window. Flames engulfed the town square, and screams filled the air.

"No!" Jamie cried, trembling.

I grabbed my emergency bag and helped Lissa take hers too as we all ran towards the back door. "We have to go, now!"

As we fled into the night, I hadn't realized that we weren't all together.
