Chapter 28: Bulk Black Cards to Support My Husband

Gu Yining's eyes flicked to the black card Fu Hanning had tossed so nonchalantly on the table. A small, greedy voice in her head tempted her to reach out and grab it. She couldn't deny that it stirred a bit of desire in her heart—who wouldn't be tempted by the limitless allure of a card like that?

But she knew exactly what Fu Hanning was trying to do. He was using that card as a tool to belittle her, to reinforce his belief that she was nothing more than a gold-digger. She wasn't about to let him win. Sure, she needed money, but she was capable of earning it herself.

After a moment of hesitation, she picked up the card, running her fingers over its glossy surface. Fu Hanning's lips curled into a smirk, satisfied that he'd proven his point about her being just another greedy woman.

But she wasn't finished.

"Hold onto this," she said, pressing the card back into the pocket of his suit jacket and giving his shoulder a reassuring pat. "Give me some time. I'll have my own wealth soon enough. When that day comes, I'll buy these black cards in bulk, a dozen at a time if I need to, and then I'll be the one supporting you. Remember what I told you before we got married? I've got your back, and I mean it."

She turned on her heel and started to walk away, her steps as confident as her words. "Anyway," she called over her shoulder, "if you want me to handle your treatment, just transfer four million to my account. I'll take care of you tonight."

Fu Hanning stood frozen, his face a mixture of surprise and irritation. For a moment, he was speechless, watching as she strode out of the room with a sway of her hips, a display of defiance he hadn't anticipated.

Once she was outside, Gu Yining pulled up the Medical Alliance website on her phone and accessed the details of her latest assignment. She skimmed through the file, confirming the task and noting that the patient had paid an additional one million to skip the queue.

A smile spread across her face as she read the patient's name: Gu Tingyuan.

Apparently, her father had been so enraged by yesterday's scandal involving Gu Wenxuan's plagiarism incident that he had fallen ill. Gu Group's stocks had plummeted overnight, and his beloved daughter had become a laughingstock in the media. It wasn't surprising that he'd wound up in bed.

Ironically, she—the very source of his distress—was now being called upon to treat him. What a twist of fate. Gu Yining couldn't help but feel a wicked sense of anticipation at the thought of seeing him lying helplessly in bed.

It was well known that Gu Tingyuan was paranoid about his health and terrified of death. Spending a million to summon the legendary Dr. Ghost Hand was nothing unusual for him. He would spare no expense to avoid setting foot in a hospital, a place that, to him, was synonymous with bad memories.

Inside the master bedroom of the Gu family mansion, Gu Wenshan and Chen Huilan hovered anxiously by Gu Tingyuan's bedside. His face was pale, contorted with the pain that radiated from his heart.

"Wenshan, are you sure this Dr. Ghost Hand is as amazing as they say? Perhaps we should just take your father to the hospital," Chen Huilan suggested, her voice tinged with worry.

"Dad refuses to go to a hospital, and the family doctor couldn't find anything wrong," Gu Wenshan replied, trying to sound optimistic. "I've heard incredible things about this doctor. Apparently, he even brought an eighty-year-old woman back from death's door not too long ago."

Chen Huilan still looked doubtful, but there was no denying that Gu Tingyuan's hospital phobia was rooted in tragedy. He had watched as Gu Yining's mother, Xie Wanxiang, withered away in a hospital bed years ago. The memory haunted him, filling him with a fear that kept him away from hospitals at all costs. He'd rather suffer in silence than risk facing his own ghosts.

Upstairs, Gu Wenxuan had locked herself away, stewing in her humiliation. Rather than take responsibility for her scandal, she had blamed it on her father, the very man who had given her the formula for the perfume that had backfired so disastrously.

Just then, a knock at the door interrupted their vigil. The butler entered, bowing respectfully. "Sir, Madam, there's a young woman outside. She's carrying a medical kit and claims to be the doctor you requested."

"Please, show her in at once!" Chen Huilan said urgently, relief momentarily softening her features.

Within moments, the sound of measured footsteps approached. Gu Yining entered, wearing a crisp white lab coat over her tailored shirt. Her hair was pulled back into a sleek ponytail, and a light dusting of makeup accentuated her striking features.

Today, she looked every bit the part of the capable doctor, exuding a sense of professionalism and confidence that surprised the household staff.

She had scrubbed away the birthmark on her face, determined to confront Gu Tingyuan without anything to distract from the truth of who she had become. The sight of her, composed and self-assured, only heightened the anticipation swirling in the room.
