Slap—
Without saying a word, Fu Hannian abruptly hung up the phone.
When Gu Yicing tried to call again, the display showed that the line was busy.
She thought to herself that Fu Hannian was probably busy contacting someone at the Civil Affairs Bureau.
With that in mind, she decided to patiently wait at the entrance.
Initially, her only intention in marrying Fu Hannian was revenge, but now, reflecting on it, she realized there were many ways to exact her revenge. She could easily find someone she genuinely loved and have a child with him.
It was clear to her that she and Fu Hannian were utterly mismatched; their personalities clashed, and their life paths were entirely incompatible.
Regret washed over her as she recalled how hastily she had rushed into this marriage.
After all, once they divorced, they would each go their separate ways, and life would return to normal for both of them, with minimal impact.
As she mulled over these thoughts, Gu Yicing suddenly felt like a terrible person.
She had pressured him into marriage, only to now be the one stirring up a divorce.
"Could he be trying to blackmail me for divorce compensation?" she wondered, a sudden realization hitting her.
Not long after, she received a call from Li Feng.
"Madam, the young master has asked me to draft a divorce agreement. The main points are that you will have to pay the young master one billion in divorce compensation, in addition to damages for emotional distress. Furthermore, since you were caught in the bar attempting to seduce one of his subordinates, there's a suspicion of infidelity on your part. Therefore, you will leave empty-handed, without any claim to the Fu family's assets."
Li Feng rattled off all of this in one breath.
Gu Yicing was momentarily stunned, her mouth hanging open in disbelief.
A billion for divorce compensation, and she wouldn't receive a single cent of the family fortune!
Damn it, Fu Hannian was so ruthless and stingy!
How was she supposed to survive after that? Where would she find such a vast sum of money?
She had painstakingly saved only a few million; reaching a billion seemed like an impossible dream.
As she stood outside the Civil Affairs Bureau, the cold wind made her shiver while gripping her phone tightly.
"Madam, are you still there?" Li Feng asked, noticing her silence and thinking the connection might be bad.
"I... I'm still here."
"The young master said that if you don't agree to this arrangement, you can file a lawsuit. However, your chances of winning in court are nearly zero, and you should understand why."
"I..." At that moment, Gu Yicing truly felt like banging her head against the wall, consumed by despair.
Why had she even stirred up trouble with Fu Hannian, this meticulous, stingy, cold-blooded tyrant?
Someone like him, who had no appreciation for delicate feelings, deserved to be alone for eternity, never to find a wife. Yet, here she was, willingly stepping into the role of his spouse.
Hearing her hesitant response on the other end of the line, Li Feng felt a sense of relief wash over him.
It seemed that his goal had been achieved.
"Madam, do you still want a divorce?"
Gu Yicing quickly replied, "Why would I want to divorce? If I do, I won't even get my monthly compensation of one million! I'm not stupid."
Li Feng couldn't help but twitch at the corners of his mouth.
In his mind, he thought: At least it's a good thing that Madam values money.
By the time Gu Yicing returned to the Fu family mansion, it was nearing ten o'clock at night.
"Madam, where have you been?" Aunt Chen set aside her tasks and hurried over to her.
"Hmm, where's Fu Hannian?" Gu Yicing asked, changing into her slippers at the entrance before walking inside.
"The young master went to his room to rest, but he doesn't seem to be in a good mood. Should I take this cup of milk to him, or would you like to do it yourself?"
Aunt Chen placed a warm cup of milk on a tray and offered it to her.
Gu Yicing accepted the milk, smiling in appreciation, before heading upstairs with it.
When she arrived outside Fu Hannian's master bedroom, she politely knocked on the door.
"Come in." His cold voice echoed from inside.
Gu Yicing turned the doorknob and stepped inside.
The atmosphere in the room felt heavy, a palpable tension hanging in the air, as she prepared to confront the man she was so conflicted about.
