Chapter 210: The Xiao Family's Crisis
After leaving the Yun Lan Sect, Mo Yu and Xiao Yan decided, after some discussion, to leave the imperial capital and return to Wu Tan City. It had been two or three years since they had last seen their family, as they had been away training. Deep down, both Mo Yu and Xiao Yan felt a sense of attachment to their family, and with some free time now, they decided to return to the Xiao family.
Mo Yu, in particular, was eager to see his grandfather, whom he missed deeply since his rebirth. Now that the matters in the Jia Ma Empire were nearly resolved and his strength had reached a bottleneck, it was time to embark on a new journey. Whether heading to Jia Nan Academy or traveling to the Central Plains for further training, it was likely that they wouldn't be able to return for several years. Therefore, before setting off, Mo Yu wanted to spend more time with his family.
After bidding farewell to Hai Bodong and Ling Ying, Mo Yu and Xiao Yan spent half a month traveling before finally descending near Wu Tan City. Once they landed, Mo Yu and Xiao Yan exchanged glances, their faces lighting up with joy as they quickly made their way towards the city's open gates.
As they approached the gates, Mo Yu glanced up at the large characters "Wu Tan City" written above and couldn't help but stop for a moment. He listened to the bustling sounds coming from within the city walls and murmured, "Wu Tan City, we're back..."
Xiao Yan also smiled with joy, turning to Mo Yu and saying, "Let's go, Brother Mo Yu. It's been a long time since we were home. Father and Butler Mo will be thrilled to see you."
Mo Yu nodded with a smile, "Yes, it's time to visit home. But compared to me, you should be the one to return to the family with honor. As they say, 'Success should be celebrated in one's hometown.' Now that you've achieved so much, the whole family will be proud of you."
Xiao Yan paused, then smiled sheepishly. With the conclusion of the three-year agreement at the Yun Lan Sect, the fame of the Xiao family's twin dragons had spread throughout the empire. Xiao Yan, under the alias Yan Xiao, had also attracted a lot of attention. After all, the champion of the Alchemist Grand Meeting typically became a significant figure in the empire. The Xiao family, once a small and insignificant clan, had gained considerable fame thanks to Xiao Yan, not only in the Jia Ma Empire but also in neighboring countries.
As this news reached the Xiao family, it was sure to bring immense joy to everyone.
The two of them walked through the city gates and down the familiar streets of Wu Tan City. After about ten minutes, they suddenly stopped, looking up at the large estate at the end of the street. The characters above the gate read "Xiao Family."
Standing in front of the Xiao family's gate, Mo Yu suddenly frowned. His eyes scanned the surroundings, noticing something amiss. The Xiao family, though not influential in the empire, was one of the top families in Wu Tan City. On any given day, the entrance to the Xiao estate would be bustling with activity. However, today, it was unusually quiet. The guards, who usually stood neatly and proudly at the gate, were nowhere to be seen.
Mo Yu felt a growing sense of unease, a bad premonition forming in his mind. He turned to look at Xiao Yan, noticing a similar look of concern in his cousin's eyes.
"Xiao Yan, let's go inside and check it out," Mo Yu said gravely.
"Yes," Xiao Yan replied, his face serious.
Even though they had been away for years, the layout of the Xiao family estate was still familiar to them. Their steps were light as they walked down the gravel path, passing through a few corridors until they finally reached a spacious hall at the end. As they approached, they could hear the sounds of shouting and fighting coming from within, causing both Mo Yu and Xiao Yan to frown.
"It seems the family is in trouble..." Xiao Yan said, his face darkening.
For Xiao Yan, the Xiao family was the softest spot in his heart, something he wouldn't allow to be harmed. Like a dragon with a reverse scale, those who touched it would face death!
Mo Yu patted Xiao Yan on the shoulder and said, "Something is indeed wrong, but as long as we have strength, we can control our fate. With our power, no one in Wu Tan City can stand against the Xiao family!"
Hearing this, Xiao Yan's tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly, and he nodded, saying, "You're right, Brother Mo Yu. No matter who they are, if they dare to harm the Xiao family, they will be destroyed!"
The killing intent in Xiao Yan's words made Mo Yu raise an eyebrow, but he nodded in agreement. Together, they turned their attention to the Xiao family hall.
After exchanging a glance, Mo Yu and Xiao Yan walked towards the hall.
As they stepped into the hall, the scene before them immediately came into view.
The spacious hall was dimly lit and filled with tension. Dozens of powerful auras filled the space without restraint. At least a hundred people were packed into the hall, split into two opposing groups, glaring at each other with hostility, as if on the verge of violence.
In front of each group sat several individuals. One group was clearly composed of Xiao family members. At the forefront of the Xiao family members sat the three elders, their faces pale. Judging by the traces of Dou Qi faintly emanating from their bodies, it was evident that they had sustained significant injuries.
Opposite the Xiao family was a group of men with fierce expressions. Seated in a prominent position among them were three individuals, one of whom was none other than Galebi, the patriarch of the Jia Lie family, who had once been severely weakened by the Xiao family.
The second man was the patriarch of the Oba family, another of Wu Tan City's three great families.
The third man, however, was unfamiliar. He wore the robes of an alchemist, and his expression was cold and stern. He appeared to be around fifty years old. What stood out most was the alchemist badge on his chest, with three silver ripples that seemed to move like living things.
A three-star alchemist!
Seeing this, Mo Yu and Xiao Yan's faces darkened.
In Wu Tan City, a place without even an Alchemist Association, a three-star alchemist could command respect from any faction.
With the Jia Lie and Oba families joining forces with this unknown three-star alchemist, it was clear that the Xiao family was in serious trouble!
What worried Mo Yu even more was whether the Yun Lan Sect was behind this. Even with his intervention, could it be that the Yun Lan Sect was still targeting the Xiao family?
"Young Patriarch! Elder Mo! You've finally returned!"
As Mo Yu and Xiao Yan took in the scene, someone in the hall finally noticed their arrival. When they recognized the two thin figures at the entrance, an elderly voice, filled with hope and joy, rang out in the hall.
As the voice echoed, the speaker—none other than the Great Elder—let out a long breath of relief, tears of joy streaming down his aged face.
At the sound of these names, Galebi froze, turning in disbelief to look behind him. When he saw the two young men at the entrance, his face went white as if he had seen a ghost. Panic and fear flashed in his eyes as he stammered, "The Xiao family's twin dragons… how is this possible? Weren't you supposed to be dead?!"
