Chapter 211: Mo Yu's Killing Intent
The hall was deathly silent, with only the sound of quickened breathing breaking the stillness. Everyone's eyes were fixed on the two young men who had just entered.
"Xiao Yan... Mo Yu..." The Great Elder, supported by the family members behind him, looked at the two faces that had matured since two years ago. His voice trembled with emotion as he spoke, "Is it really you?"
Both Mo Yu and Xiao Yan nodded quietly in response.
"Great Elder, it really is Young Master Xiao Yan and Young Master Mo Yu!" one of the Xiao family members, who was helping the Great Elder, exclaimed with joy, almost incoherent with excitement.
Instantly, a wave of relief and happiness swept through the Xiao family members, replacing the despair that had gripped them moments earlier. Some who were less composed even let out cries of joy.
In stark contrast to the joyful atmosphere among the Xiao family, the members of the Jia Lie and Oba families were filled with dread. Jia Lie Bi, in particular, turned deathly pale, his entire body growing cold with fear.
"The intelligence was wrong... The Xiao family's twin dragons aren't dead!"
Recalling the recent rumors of the Xiao family's twin dragons fighting against the Yun Lan Sect, Jia Lie Bi and Oba Pa felt a deep sense of regret and terror welling up from within.
"Are you three elders alright?" Xiao Yan asked softly, his back turned to those whose faces now bore varying expressions. He looked at the three elders, whose faces were pale, and asked with concern.
"We're alright," the Great Elder replied, shaking his head and smiling with relief. "It's good that you've returned. The family is depending on you two now."
Mo Yu scanned the room, his gaze sweeping over the familiar faces of the Xiao family members behind the three elders. Not seeing his grandfather, the steward Mo, among them, he frowned slightly before speaking. "Don't worry, Great Elder. These small fry are nothing. I'll take care of them."
"Mo Yu, be careful. Jia Lie Bi and Oba Pa are both Five-Star Da Dou Shis, and that old man is the teacher of Liu Ling, a Three-Star Alchemist with the strength of a Six-Star Da Dou Shi," the Great Elder cautioned, unable to hide his concern.
Although he had heard of Mo Yu's feats at the Yun Lan Sect, they were so astonishing that the Great Elder found it difficult to reconcile the image of the young man before him with the rumors of his battle against Yun Shan.
"Don't worry, Great Elder. My cousin Mo Yu can handle this," Xiao Yan said with a smile, noticing the Great Elder's doubt.
He had personally witnessed Mo Yu's strength. Although he wasn't sure if Mo Yu could easily wield the terrifying power he had displayed against Yun Shan, Mo Yu's regular strength was more than enough to defeat the Dou Ling elders of the Yun Lan Sect. Against Jia Lie Bi and Oba Pa, it was hardly a challenge.
Mo Yu smiled and nodded before turning his gaze towards Jia Lie Bi. His expression turned cold as he said, "It's been two years, and both of you still seem as arrogant as ever. I wonder who gave you the courage to come and bully my Xiao family!"
Jia Lie Bi and Oba Pa couldn't help but shiver as they stared at the familiar face that still bore traces of the youth they remembered from two years ago. Swallowing hard, they stammered, "H-hello, Nephew Mo Yu... We didn't expect to see you again..."
"T-this is all just a misunderstanding. We heard the Xiao family was in trouble and came to see if we could help. After all, our families have had many dealings with the Xiao family over the years. Naturally, we were concerned," they quickly added, trying to justify their presence. Inside, they cursed the person who had misinformed them, leading them into this trap.
"Oh, is that so?" Mo Yu said, his cold smile widening as he recalled their earlier words. He suspected that someone had deliberately spread rumors of his and Xiao Yan's deaths to lure these two families into making a move. It was likely that the Yun Lan Sect or even the Soul Hall was involved.
Mo Yu knew that the Soul Hall, backed by the Soul Clan, was a formidable force. Although the Soul Clan was powerful enough to crush the Xiao family like an ant, the balance of power with the Gu Clan prevented them from openly attacking. However, using the Jia Lie and Oba families as pawns was an easy and convenient option for them.
Since the Xiao family had shown kindness to him after his rebirth, Mo Yu felt no obligation to show mercy to these foolish families.
Mo Yu raised his head slightly, his silver eyes sharp as blades as they locked onto Jia Lie Bi and Oba Pa. In the stillness of the room, a soft, muffled sound suddenly echoed. Without warning, a violent red lightning burst from Mo Yu's body. The temperature and electrical charge in the hall rose sharply, forcing the nearby Xiao family members to step back.
"There's no need for more words. Today, none of you will leave here alive." Mo Yu's voice, cold as ice, reverberated through the hall as the red lightning crackled around him.
As they watched the crimson lightning surge from Mo Yu's body, Jia Lie Bi, Oba Pa, and the three-star alchemist all took two fearful steps back, their faces pale with terror.
"Nephew Mo Yu, don't misunderstand. I have no ill intentions towards the Xiao family. This is all a misunderstanding. I'll leave right now!" Oba Pa stammered, his voice trembling with fear. After speaking, he quickly signaled his men, and the group cautiously began to retreat from the hall.
"Master Mo! Don't let them go! In the past two days, they've injured many of our family members—some of them even..." The third elder, unable to contain his anger, shouted as he watched the intruders begin to leave.
Hearing himself addressed as "Master Mo," Mo Yu understood that the Xiao family elders must have conferred this title upon him after learning of his exploits. This was likely a way to draw him closer to the family.
To Mo Yu, this title meant little. If the Xiao family were still the ancient Xiao Clan of a thousand years ago, being a master would have been an honor. But now...
Mo Yu watched coldly as Jia Lie Bi, Oba Pa, and the three-star alchemist, along with their followers, made a hasty retreat. However, the alchemist's face remained dark. Although he feared Mo Yu's reputation, his pride as an alchemist wouldn't allow him to flee like a coward. Gritting his teeth, he shouted, "Stop right there! The Xiao family is on the brink of collapse, and you're letting a mere boy frighten you? How can you face anyone in Wu Tan City after this?"
At the alchemist's words, Jia Lie Bi and Oba Pa hesitated. But before they could make a decision, a blood-curdling scream echoed through the hall.
They turned around in horror to see the three-star alchemist engulfed in a violet flame. The flame rose higher, and with it, his agonized screams.
Under the horrified gazes of everyone in the hall, the alchemist's body was consumed by the violet flame at a speed visible to the naked eye. In just a matter of seconds, his entire body, including his bones, was reduced to ash.
In the hall, everyone could only gulp as they stared in horror at the grisly remains of the Three-Star Alchemist. When their eyes shifted to the source of the purple flames, they were filled with even more terror.
A massive beast, five to six meters long, had appeared in the hall at some point. The creature radiated an aura of pure menace, its limbs wreathed in purple flames, resembling a terrifying beast straight from the depths of hell.
It was a Fourth-Rank Magical Beast, the Amethyst Winged Lion King!
Jia Lie Bi and Oba Pa's teeth chattered uncontrollably as a name surfaced in their minds, bringing them to the brink of collapse.
"Nephew Mo Yu, we'll take our leave now. What happened today was absolutely just a misunderstanding," Jia Lie Bi stammered, trembling as he cupped his hands toward Mo Yu, who remained seated calmly in his chair like an unmoving statue. Jia Lie Bi and Oba Pa could no longer withstand the fear gnawing at them. They gathered their men and fled in a panic, already deciding to pack up and leave Wu Tan City as soon as they got out of there.
Mo Yu's cold gaze followed the retreating figures of Jia Lie Bi and his group as they scrambled out the door. He finally raised his hand slightly, and in a voice as calm as ever, he gave an order that sent a thrill of excitement through the Xiao family members.
"Leave none alive."
As Mo Yu's words echoed in the hall, the massive beast that had been cooped up in its Beast Ring roared with excitement. The purple flames surrounding it flared as it charged into the midst of the two fleeing families. The hall's doors slammed shut with a heavy bang, sealing off their escape. Then, the screams began outside the door, one after another.
Inside the hall, a heavy silence fell, broken only by the agonized screams filtering in from outside. Every member of the Xiao family clenched their fists, their faces alight with satisfaction.
Zihuo, Mo Yu's magical beast, had been cultivating within the Beast Ring for some time. After devouring the mysterious remains of a beast in a small valley, its strength had gradually increased. Now, even a Seven or Eight-Star Dou Ling might not be a match for it.
The screams outside didn't last more than a minute before they faded into nothingness. As the last cries died away, all eyes in the hall turned once again to Mo Yu, who still sat calmly in his chair, his back to them. Now, those gazes were filled with fervent reverence.
"Elder Mo Yu," the Great Elder said, stepping forward with excitement and breaking the heavy silence in the hall.
"Great Elder, just call me Mo Yu. I don't deserve the title of Elder," Mo Yu replied, rising slowly from his seat and turning with a light smile.
The Great Elder was momentarily taken aback by the contrast between the handsome, calm face before him and the fearsome killing intent Mo Yu had just displayed. Then he smiled and nodded. "Half a month ago, the family elders unanimously decided to appoint you as a family elder and Xiao Yan as the young clan leader. I hope you won't refuse."
"Alright, so be it," Mo Yu agreed, accepting the Xiao family's goodwill without further protest.
The Great Elder smiled in relief at Mo Yu's acceptance. As he glanced around, he saw that Xiao Yan had already begun taking out medicinal pills to heal some of the injured clan members.
Under the reverent gazes of the Xiao family members, Mo Yu retrieved Zihuo, who still seemed eager for more, into the Beast Ring. Suddenly recalling something, Mo Yu's expression turned serious. "Great Elder, where are the rest of the clan members? And where is my grandfather?"
At his words, the Great Elder's face stiffened, and the Second and Third Elders beside him also grew visibly uneasy.
Sensing that something was wrong, Mo Yu's heart sank. He demanded in a low voice, "What happened? Tell me."
"The rest of the clan has been moved to the back mountain, where some of our stronger members are protecting them," the Great Elder began, his voice tense.
"But as for Steward Mo..." The Great Elder hesitated, his face clouded with uncertainty, and his hands clenched tightly, causing a soft creak. The ominous feeling in Mo Yu's heart intensified.
"Three days ago, the Xiao family suffered a devastating attack," the Great Elder continued, his voice trembling slightly. "It was deep into the night when our defenses were weakest. Three mysterious figures in black robes descended from the sky. They didn't harm anyone directly, but they wreaked havoc on the Xiao family's estate.
"Their destruction alarmed the entire family. The clan leader was furious and led our strongest members to try to stop them. But their strength was beyond anything we could imagine. The three of us couldn't even withstand a single blow from the leader in black. We realized they were holding back; otherwise, we wouldn't have survived."
The Great Elder's body shook as he recounted the events, his head bowed.
"Mysterious attackers? What happened to my grandfather?" Mo Yu demanded, his eyes locked on the three elders. His usually handsome face was twisted with worry, and his voice grew hoarse with fear.
The Great Elder and the other two elders exchanged bitter, sorrowful looks, their faces pale.
"My grandfather wasn't taken to the back mountain?" Mo Yu's expression darkened with anger. He suddenly stood up, his voice like a thunderclap from the depths of hell. "What happened?"
"When those three mysterious figures abducted the clan leader, Steward Mo was accidentally caught up in the battle. Although they held back, Steward Mo had no Dou Qi and was already elderly. Even the shockwaves from the fight severely injured him.
"Despite using the family's best healing medicine, we couldn't save him. Steward Mo passed away from his injuries two days ago..." the Great Elder finished, his voice trembling.
As the Great Elder's cautious words reached Mo Yu, a volcano of emotion erupted within him.
Memories of his grandfather's kindness after his rebirth flooded Mo Yu's mind, and the image of the old man's kind and gentle face rose before him. Mo Yu slowly closed his reddened eyes, a single tear escaping down his cheek.
After a moment, he wiped the tear away and opened his eyes, now filled with an intense, icy killing intent. His once-handsome, calm face was now twisted with rage and fury.
"The Yun Lan Sect... They will pay. They must pay!"
