Izumi Miyamura: Xover - Chapter 87 - Amy Pov

Author's Notes: Chapter edited and corrected by Scott Fellman.

Amelia Dallon - Brockton Bay.

"So, when is this festival starting? I could have been at the hospital right now." I couldn't help but groan once more.

"Ammyy, give it a few more minutes. It's about to start," Vicky complained as she approached with a bowl of popcorn. I suppressed the urge to agree with her and comfort her.

"You said you wanted to do something together, not that we'd see a Japanese festival with the rest of the Protectorate," I growled.

"First! It's THE UA University Sports Festival, Japan's biggest sports festival! It's a must-see! And secondly, the more the merrier! " Vicky added with a huge smile. "Plus, we've been seeing each other less and less since you moved out," Vicky said in a pouting tone. "I'm sure Mom misses you too." I snorted.

"Yeah, sure, hell will freeze over when Carol decides to miss me," I said dryly. "She misses checking up on me," I added mockingly.

"That's not true," Vicky said weakly, and I rolled my eyes.

"It is; there's a reason I moved out the moment I could," I said dryly. That, and to get away from you before I did something I'd regret.

"B-but-"

"Vicky," Dean said softly with a smile and a shake of his head. Vicky seemed to struggle slightly before nodding as she plopped down beside Dean, her fiancé, and cuddled him. I suppressed the grimace of disgust that threatened to grow on my face. The room fell awkwardly silent.

"Oh, Amy, it seems as if you hate our company. That hurts us." Denise said, smiling goofily as she leaned against the backrest next to me, oblivious to the recent argument. Of course, she'd be the one to break the silence.

"Wow, did you notice? You're smarter than I thought. Congratulations, you're smarter than a slug," I smiled sardonically. Denise clutched her chest as if she'd been injured.

"Your words are always so sharp." Denise moaned in pain. "What would your fans say if they knew that behind your miraculous healing quirk lies a tongue as prickly as yours?" Denise mocked.

"At least she has fans, unlike you." Missy mocked as she sat on the other side of Dean and got as close as she could, trying to be subtle and failing completely, her blush giving her away from miles away.

"I see how it is; everyone is against me. What a poor fate it is for my own allies to be my enemies." Denise fainted onto the couch. I was about to scoff again when the door opened, and Miss Militia walked in with Triumph and Aegis. She looked around the room and saw Denise passed out on the couch. She shrugged and walked into the room while removing her scarf from her face. I guess it was Hannah now.

"Being dramatic again, Denise?" Hanna asked playfully as she sat down in one of the seats.

"She's better at being dramatic than trying to make jokes." Missy mocked. Denise moaned loudly.

"I'll have you know that my fans love my jokes," Denise replied as she got up from her 'faint,' and I raised an eyebrow.

"I thought we agreed you didn't have fans," Christina said playfully as she walked over, pushed Denise out of her seat, and sat down.

" Gah!" moaned Denise once again, causing laughter from the others.

"It seems pretty lively around here," Aegis, AKA Carla, said as she removed her helmet. Triumph and Rory did the same. They both looked for seats around the room. I guess this Japan festival was way bigger than I thought if more than half of the main branch of the Protectorate was present. Several people were missing, like Flechette and Browbeat, who were on patrol at this hour.

We were inside the Protectorate headquarters in downtown Brockton Bay, on Lord Street. The Protectorate separated its heroes into small groups of half a dozen to a dozen. They usually kept those who had been in the Wards program together to maintain cohesion for obvious reasons.

The only one who hadn't graduated yet was Missy. But I was sure she'd be deployed to this group since we'd been together for years, so she spent much more time with the Protectorate group than with the Wards and their new members.

Miss Militia, Hannah, had grown quite attached to this particular group, so she spent some time with them as a mentor and friend. It was really nice.

Meanwhile, Vicky had also joined the Protectorate when she came of age and I left the New Wave group to become completely independent. So, I was the only outsider in this group.

The door opened once more.

"Ugh, they're all here," Sophia's constantly annoyed voice growled. Behind her was Emma, her girlfriend.

"Wow, great greeting, Sophia. Your social skills are as impressive as ever." Missy said with a teasing smile, Sophia just rolled her eyes.

"And shouldn't you be with the Wards, shorty? This place is for the Protectorate, the real heroes. You shouldn't be here." Sophia mocked, and Missy growled.

"Meh, we invited her. She's certainly nicer than you," Denise replied amusedly. Sophia snorted and dragged Emma along. They were heading to their personal quarters when Hannah interrupted them.

"Emma, Sophia, aren't you joining us for the Festival?" Hannah asked with a smile. Everyone except Dean groaned loudly. Hannah just turned to us and gave us a disapproving look. We all rolled our eyes but stayed silent.

We were already accustomed to Sophia Hess's constant hostility, including Vicky and I, even though we weren't previously part of the Wards. It had been tolerable when they were in the Wards program, which was basically a long internship for any underage girl so that, once they came of age, they could join the Protectorate immediately and not have to attend "Hero School."

There were rumors that Sophia was on probation during her time in the Wards, but once she graduated and was admitted to the Protectorate, her entire record was wiped clean. So she took that as an excuse to become 10 times more annoying than before.

On the other hand, Emma Barnes was 'good,' and that was simply because she could smell the blonde's fakeness from so far away that it wasn't funny. Somehow, people still bought the act. I'd never seen a match made in hell deserve so much.

"No thanks, we don't have time to watch that," Sophia grunted.

"Are you sure? I understand Emma's sister was also competing," Hannah added. The two girls spun around so fast I could hear their spines creaking, and they weren't the only ones reacting that way. All of our eyes widened.

"Sister?! Emma's sister!? " Vicky asked, while taken aback.

"Taylor's actually participating?!" Emma asked, completely incredulous. I could see her paling slightly before she frowned and composed herself. What the fuck—"Are you sure Taylor's participating? Her Quirk is so weak," Emma retorted dismissively. Hannah blinked and pulled out her scroll.

"Taylor Hebert, right? She's in Class 1A at UA. She'll be participating in the freshman festival," Hannah said, confirming the information. Emma and Sophia seemed to freeze and looked at each other, their expressions barely moving, but they were practically talking in face twitches.

"We're staying," Emma said, dragging Sophia towards us. "I apologize in advance for the poor performance my... sister is sure to put on. Her Quirk really isn't anything special. She can only control some insects," Emma said, smiling fakely.

"Why didn't you tell us your sister was in Japan?! And she's participating in the festival! This is great! " Denise exclaimed in surprise.

"It wasn't something you needed to know. Now shut up and put on that festival," Sophia snapped. Denise, accustomed to Sophia's attacks, just rolled her eyes.

" Yeah, yeah, yeah," Denise said simply, grabbing the remote and putting it on the correct channel. We are about to watch another year's festival, interesting.

"Oh, look, this one is about to start!" Vicky said happily.

"Turn it up!" Vista said anxiously.

"Okay, okay, it's time for the athlete's oath!! Your student representative is from class 1- A, Taylor Hebert!!" the announcer shouted loudly. Wait, shouldn't that be in Japanese? Live translation? Impressive, they really want to show off.

"Wait! You said your sister has a weak quirk?! And she's her year's representative?!" Missy asked incredulously. Sophia snorted.

"So that tells us how weak they are over there in Japan," Sophia mocked. We all snorted loudly. As if the Japanese were weak. Lung was the complete opposite. We looked at the screen and saw a woman our age walk up, thin with almost no curves. She wore a sports uniform, with long, shiny, well-kept hair tied in a neat braid almost touching the floor. Her glasses hid her dazzling bottle-green eyes.

"That's your sister!? She doesn't look anything like you!!" Denise exclaimed incredulously.

"Different mother." Emma snarled, seeming to be glaring at her sister. What the hell, that look bordered on hatred. I glanced at Dean, looking at her with concern, and that was all the indication I needed to know something bad was going on here. It looked like more than just sibling rivalry.

" I —I, Taylor Hebert!" I winced at how her voice cracked, even with the on-screen translator on. Sophia and Emma smirked at that. "With this oath, on behalf of all competitors, I promise that I will outlast all of you losers and place first. Thank you very much!" They both froze, and I stared in disbelief at the screen.

"HAHAHAHA! Now she really does look like your sister!!" Denise exclaimed happily. Sophia and Emma looked completely incredulous at what they had just heard.

"Wait, she's from Brockton Bay. Does that mean she's representing us!? And she just said that?!" Missy asked incredulously.

" As long as she kicks everyone else's ass, I have no problem," Vicky said with a shrug and a smile.

"Still, she shouldn't have said that she just made enemies of all the other students," Rory said with a frown.

" Shhh, it's about to begin!" Denise fell silent. The presenter began to explain the first event, an obstacle course.

"Let's begin then... on your marks... begin!!" All of our eyes were fixed on the enormous screen on the wall as we watched a colossal layer of ice cover the entire entrance and stop half the students in their tracks. My eyes widened slightly, sharply. But that didn't stop the other half.

To my surprise, a rather unassuming boy with shoulder-length hair and glasses took the lead, followed by a girl who could transform into petals and move quickly. They were both vying for first place while the other students tried to catch up. Then, they reached the first obstacle.

" HERE COME THE OBSTACLES, AND HOW SUDDEN!! AND FROM THE BEGINNING, THE FIRST BARRIER WILL BE A ROBOT-HELL !!

"What the hell! What's wrong with Japan?!" Denise exclaimed incredulously.

"Language," Hannah said distractedly, without looking away, still staring at the screen in surprise.

"That doesn't matter! Why did Japan throw robots the size of buildings into an obstacle course?! Why don't we have one of those?! Chris! Build one for us! " Denise said, excited as she looked at the screen.

We continued watching and saw how the boy with glasses drew his sword and easily tore apart the robots before him without stopping. How strong was he to cut through so much steel as if it were paper? He then slams one of its pieces toward the girl with the petal quirk and a scythe larger than her, interrupting her charge.

After that, all the other students seemed to band together to stop the boy. He was stopped by two people with wing quirks and trapped on the ground before a swarm of insects began to cover him with webs, turning him into a cocoon.

Taylor reappeared on screen, looking at the boy with glasses, placed her fingers in a V over her mouth, and stuck out her tongue. I stared in disbelief, wide-eyed, just like everyone else. Her year's representative, the US representative from Brockton Bay, at the Japanese festival, just made such an obscene gesture to a boy on international television?!

"Oh goddess." Hannah murmured incredulously. I could see Sophia and Emma staring in disbelief as if they couldn't understand what was happening.

"How... unprofessional of you," Carla said, pursing her lips into a long line. Rory looked almost horrified. I looked at the screen once more and saw that the boy with glasses had been encased in ice.

"Do they hate him?" I asked, confused. Why were so many attacking this seemingly harmless boy?

"Or is he dangerous? I doubt they'd treat a kid that way if it weren't for a reason. I don't think the Japanese are that different," Vicky said, confused.

The camera shifted again, showing the first-place finishers, who had reached the second obstacle. A huge rocky terrain with stone pillars and chasms to fall into, only connected by ropes. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with UA?

The three at the front of the pack cleared the obstacle as if nothing had happened. The cameras switched to other contestants before returning to the boy with glasses. He used his sword, swung it faster than the camera could capture, and broke free from his temporary prison. He then hit the ground and shot off. He quickly reached the second obstacle, and as if he were running on level ground, he smashed through it.

As he progressed, he cut the ropes to delay and impede the contestants behind him. The camera panned once more, revealing the first places, and the third obstacle was revealed. A minefield. The image showed an air blast hitting the ground and exploding next to those in the top positions.

The image again showed the boy with glasses smiling, his sword drawn with a wide grin on his face before disappearing. The race quickly turned into an eight-way race. But most impressively, seven of them were attacking the eighth, the boy with glasses.

"I really want to know what that Miyamura guy did to earn everyone else's hatred," Vicky said in surprise.

"That's good, very good," Hannah remarked as she watched Miyamura easily dodge seven attacks and remain at the race's head. Once he reached the finish line, Miyamura used the roof as a platform and accelerated, winning the race. Denise whistled in awe.

"That guy is awesome," Denise said with a wide smile as she looked at the boy unashamedly. I rolled my eyes.

"Your sister came in tenth place," Missy pointed out as they watched Hebert cross the finish line.

"Pathetic," Sophia snorted. Emma just pursed her lips before smiling mockingly.

"By the way, does she know how to use the sword at her waist? She carried it the whole way, but they never showed her unsheathing it." Christina asked, pointing. Now that she mentioned it, she did have a sword at her hip, but to my surprise, it was wrapped in spider webs for some reason.

"Taylor never had a powerful quirk, so I'm sure her teachers at UA were worried and taught her how to use a gun to help her," Emma said with a fake smile. I scrunched my face in disgust. It was so phony it was disgusting.

"She must not be confident then if she doesn't even think about drawing it," Rory pointed out with a frown.

"Meh, I think she has some tricks up her sleeve. That girl is the year's representative, and we've seen students with strong quirks. I mean, there was that ice girl who completely froze a colossal robot and that crazy girl with the explosions from her hands. Even Miyamura seems strong. I don't think UA chose her for nothing." Denise said with a smile.

I raised an eyebrow at her, and Denise just continued to laugh, receiving a glare from Sophia and a sneer from Emma. She was definitely saying that to annoy them.

"They're announcing the second event!" Dean pointed out calmly. We all turned to look at the screen.

[Human Cavalry Battle!]

"Well... that's unusual?" I said, confused.

"I mean, it sounds normal for a festival," Missy pointed out with a shrug. I thought about it and shrugged. I guess so. My eyes widened when Miyamura's points for first place were announced.

"He's toast," Denise said dryly.

"10 million points, all the students will attack him without hesitation," Rory said simply.

"We'll have to wait and see," Hannah said, and we all watched as groups formed while we talked.

"…3…2…1… BEGIN!!!!" The cavalry battle officially began, and all the groups did exactly what everyone else thought. They immediately attacked Miyamura's group. To my surprise, Miyamura grabbed his blonde companion by the hair and literally began using her as a human shield.

My eyes widened at the complete lack of human decency on international television. When the attacks stopped, and the blonde finally reacted, the first thing she did was let out a loud moan... what?

" mmmhh! hehehehe, m- more! Use me as a shield all you want Miyamura!! " I stared at the screen in disbelief.

"She's a fucking masochist?!" I'm jealous! I mean, no, what the fuck!?

" Hahaha! Come with everything you have! My shield can withstand anything!! " Miyamura had a deranged smile as he shook the blonde by the hair. The blonde moaned even louder at the treatment and at being classified as a shield or an object.

What the hell was going on with Japan? And where could I get one of those? The blonde was stunning. She certainly didn't look Japanese, but she didn't necessarily have to be a foreigner to be at UA. But the way she seemed completely blissful, almost orgasmic, while being used as a human shield was bizarre. It's something exciting... fascinating.

The ensuing fight, as expected, was complete chaos. All groups attacked Miyamura mercilessly, and to everyone's surprise, Miyamura held his own against all the other groups. Even at the end, when he was separated from his horse, Miyamura won by jumping and bouncing in the air... somehow.

Curiously, Hebert's team had finished in second place. She had used her insects to steal from the other groups while they were focused on Miyamura, clever.

"Brockton Bay's win! Second place is really good!" Denise said happily. Sophia and Emma's sour looks spoke volumes. But the others were genuinely happy as they talked about the fight.

"By the way! What's his quirk? Is it to Jump in the air? Is it That thing where his arms or swords turned black?! " Vicky asked excitedly.

"That was Haki," Hannah interrupted. We all looked at her in confusion. Hanna blinked and cleared her throat. "Haki is what it's commonly known as, ambition, aspiration, drive, vigor, commanding spirit, will, etc. It's a very advanced way of using the aura," Hannah explained.

"Wait, a way to use the aura? Why don't we know about that?" Missy asked, frowning. Hannah grimaced.

"Because it's challenging. You recently graduated from the Wards. You're given an adjustment period since your duties are very different and the workload is heavier. There are a few months to a year until you're told about Haki," Hannah explained. "Rory and Carla already had that talk." The nominees nodded seriously.

"But... what is Haki?" Dean asked, confused. Hannah considered it for a few seconds before raising her hand. Her fingers began to turn black before spreading across her entire hand and reaching the middle of her arm. She turned her hand over to show us the result.

"Haki, it's… the closest I can explain it is, the manifestation of willpower. It's… it's using your soul, your aura, to impose your will on the world." Hannah said as she clenched her black fist. "Haki is something very difficult to train. For the average person, it would take two to three years to learn the basics of Haki, and mastering it would take much longer."

"That's a long time," Denise said, her eyes wide open. Hannah nodded as the blackness on her fist receded.

"It is, but the benefits are incredible. Haki can manifest in several ways, one of the most important being what I just did and what Miyamura used. Armament Haki. It coats the body or a weapon with Haki, making them stronger and more resilient. Think of it as an aura shield a hundred times more concentrated," Hannah explained.

"Stronger? How much? " Sophia asked immediately.

"A lot. I heard there was a guy without a Quirk who could exchange full-power punches with All Might with just his Haki. That is how strong it is when used by an expert." Hannah said solemnly. Everyone's eyes widened. "And not only that, Haki is also the biggest weakness of Quirks."

"Are you intangible? Haki can hit you. Are you invulnerable? Haki can hurt you. Do you have a shield? I can get through it easily. Anything a Quirk can do to protect you or prevent you from being hurt, Haki can almost certainly overcome. After all, it's not just a physical blow. It's a blow with the willpower, the soul, of the other person."

"There's a reason why when they were Wards, they were ordered to flee from some villains. Lung? When she starts growing, she uses Haki, which is why she turns black every time she transforms into a dragon. Kaiserin and Hookwolf? It's not unusual to see their black metals coated with Haki. Any of them, they can kill you immediately." Hannah said solemnly.

"What?! If it was so important, why didn't you tell us before? " Missy asked incredulously.

"How can I learn?" Sophia asked almost immediately. Her eyes seemed to sparkle with greed? Lust for power? That was to be expected from Sophia.

"As I said, it was complicated. The fact Miyamura was able to achieve this and use it in combat at such a young age is truly extraordinary. But let's leave the discussion for later. I'll make sure to schedule the discussion, and if you want to learn after that, I'll give you the classes. It's tedious and difficult to learn, so think it over. For now, let's keep looking at the festival," Hannah sighed. Half the people groaned but nodded.

If what Hannah said was true, then that Miyamura kid was extremely talented. It'd be best to pay more attention to him. Besides, he'd won both events in first place so far, quite easily for him.

After a short break, the recreational games began. Games that were pretty typical of a sports festival. I suppose it was to include all the students who couldn't make it to the final stage.

Still, it was entertaining to watch.

The individual duels finally began. Half of the first rounds were almost disappointing. The best was the duel between the girl with the ice quirk and the girl with the earth quirk. It was awe-inspiring.

"AND NOW WE HAVE THE WALKING ENTOMOPHOBIA GENERATOR! THE QUEEN OF BUG HORROR! THE THIRD RANK S WITHIN CLASS 1A, THE ONE WHO BROKE THE RECORDS IN THE ENTRANCE EXAM!! TAYLOR HEBEEEERRT !!!!"

Wow, what a performance. Breaking all the records on the entrance exam? Now, that was impressive. But so far, Taylor hadn't demonstrated anything like that. It was... average so far. And... the fight didn't help.

I stared incredulously at the screen as I watched Hebert cocoon the masochistic girl and kick her out of the ring. What the hell? However, I had to admit, whatever Hebert did to the blonde that made it so she couldn't hit her properly even while she stood still was impressive. I didn't even see her do anything. Maybe some mild poison on her bugs? I was really curious.

The following fights were certainly impressive. I could admit that UA was on another level. Most finalists could take out everyone present with little or no effort. That ice girl. The one who created an iceberg bigger than the stadium. It was imposing.

We continued watching the duels until Hebert returned to the ring.

Author's Notes: Some clarifications and age adjustments!

Denise ----> fem ! Dennis / ClockBlocker / 18 years old .

Christina --> fem! Christopher / Kid Win / 18 years old .

Carla ----> fem ! Carlos / Aegis / 19 years old.

Rory ----> fem! Rory / Triumph / 20 years .

Glory Girl/Vicky, Panacea/Amy, Gallant/Dean, Shadow Stalker/Sophia, Crystalia /Emma ---> 18 years old .

Missy Biron/Vista ---> 16/17 Years (under consideration).

Lung and Kaiser are women, too!

Well, as you may have read above, there was a gender adjustment for most of them, and an age adjustment so they were close in age to Taylor and Izumi, nothing significant. Their hero names are still pending, at least Clockblocker and Kid Win. For obvious reasons, they need a change, but I'm bad at naming things, so I've left them aside for now!

By the way, bonus points for anyone who knows where the name Crystalia came from for Emma's hero name, and what her power set is! ( Which, by the way, is not mine, all credit to the author! )

EDITOR THINKS YOU SHOULD KEEP CLOCKBLOCKER FOR COMEDIC REFERENCE.
