chapter five

Nobody had known about Katelyn's ex-husband well that is except for Hannah. Honestly nobody should have to go through something like that. Anyway today is the wedding anniversary of her and Scott.This was a day that Katelyn dreaded. I mean not even Scott knew that she even had an ex-husband. I knew why Katelyn had left the figure skating world was not because she had broken her ankle. She did think that she might have PTSD from that kind of world.

Anyway her and Gabriella were looking though some photos. That was when Gabriella had ran across a photo that made her curious.

Gabriella said "Who is the man in this photo? It is not my dad is it?"

Katelyn said "No that is a photo of my ex-husband and I."

Gabriella said "You were married before my dad?"

Katelyn said "Yes I was."

Gabriella said "What is this building in the picture?"

Katelyn said "That is the Mormon Nauvoo temple."

A tear had started to stream down her face."

Gabriella said "Are you okay?"

Katelyn said "Huh? Yeah I am fine."

Then she grabbed the photo away from Gabriella and stuffed it down into the bottom of the box. And even more tears streamed down her face. The subject of Katelyn's ex-husband was a traumatic event for her to even talk about. I know that was the real reason why she left the figure skating world. That night at her job.

Jonathan said "Are you alright?"

Katelyn said "I am fine."

Jonathan said "Oh alright. By the way Scott dropped this off for you."

Katelyn said "What is it ?"

Jonathan said "I don't know."

Meanwhile at Hannah's house. Hannah was talking to her husband James.

James said "So did you have fun at the party?"

Hannah said "Yes I did but I learned something new about Katelyn."

James said "What did you learn about her?"

Hannah said "She was married before she got married to her husband."

James said "Oh she was? Has she told her husband about her ex yet?"

Hannah said "No I do not think so."

James said "well I think that she needs to."

Back at Katelyn's work Katelyn had opened the box. Inside the box there was a locket. There was also a small card that was in the box.

On the inside of the card it said " To: My beloved wife and the mother of my children. From: your loving husband."

Then a call came in on the machine.

Katelyn said "911 what is emergency?"

The person on the other line was trying to order a pizza. Katelyn knew that this was code for a domestic violence call. This was when she had started to get some horrible flashbacks. Tears had started to stream down her face. She wiped them away and then she was able to send the cops to the scene.

After the call Jonathan said "Are you okay?"

Katelyn said "Huh? Yeah I am fine. I am going to eat something."

Then she went into the lunchroom and grabbed a granola bar from the vending machine. Then someone tapped her on the back of her shoulder.

The person said "Here have this."

Katelyn turned around and said "Thank you Sue."

Sue said "Are you sure that you are okay?"

Katelyn yelled "Yes I am fine."

Then she left work. Katelyn knew that her husband Scott should know about what was going on with her. Honestly I thought that she should talk to a psychologist about her troubled past. I knew that Katelyn was not one of those people to talk to a therapist abut her past. She was one of those people that would hide that part of her life.

Anyway at her home Scott said "Honey are you okay?"

Scott wanted to tell Katelyn that he would go on deployment in a couple of days. And yes the Navy does send their troops on deployment. My wife Jessica has gone on deployment many of times. So, anyway the next day Katelyn was having lunch with me.

I said "So, are you looking forward to the time that you will be alone with your girls?"

Katelyn said "What do you mean?"

I said "Scott has not told you yet has he?"

Katelyn said "Told me what?"

I said "That he is going on deployment."

Katelyn said "No."

I touched her hand. She then saw somebody out of the corner of her eye. This person that she saw was a Mormon missionary.

This person was handing out a copy of The Book Of Mormon. Then the person came over to where we were sitting.

The person said "Hi my name is Sister Nicholas and this is my companion Sister Grimes."

Katelyn interrupted her and said "You are wasting your time? I am not coming back to your faith."

Sister Nicholas said "Huh?

Then they walked away.

I said "what was that for?"

Katelyn said "You would not understand."

I said "try me."

Katelyn said "I told her that she was wasting her time because of my past."

 A tear started to stream down her face.

I then said "You do not have to talk about it if you do not want to."

That evening at my house I was talking to my wife about what was going on with Katelyn.

Jessica said "Do you think that she should go and talk to Robert about what is going on?"

I said "Maybe."

Robert was the one that helped me to come out to my family about being a lesbian. I have not seen him in a really long time but I knew that his practice was right by my work. So, the next day I went to his office.

Robert said "Are you okay?"

I said "Yes this appointment is more about one of my friends."

Robert said "Has she read any of my books?"

I said "No I cannot say that she has."

Robert said "Maybe she should come in for an appointment."

I said "Katelyn is not one to talk about those kind of things. She tends to hide that part of her life."

Robert said "Are you talking about Katelyn Thompson?"

I said "Yes."

Robert said " My wife used follow her figure skating career."

I said "Well she is now married to my wife's friend Scott Gayle."

Robert said "Oh. Is she still doing figure skating?"

I said "No she retired."

Robert said "but why?"

I said "I do not know."
