We decided to take a car to reach the prison since Irene wasn't feeling so confident. We drove and were greeted by the residents. They cheered at the arrival. Shaw was surprised to see me. He called out to someone and mom came out to see me. Before we got inside we got hosed and a female soldier took us to a private room where we were searched to the skin. She said that she was checking us all for bite marks. When we were cleared our bags were searched. Then we were allowed into the building. Mom took us to the shower block so we could get cleaned up.
Mom asked me how I am ok. I said that I was given a new medicine and it reversed my condition. The others played along. We came out to see that the soldiers were waiting to conscript us to the army. I reminded them that the law dictates we have to do it willingly. I'd rather be a civilian. This wasn't the response they were expecting but mom walked in and reminded them that she can happily call the governor who will gladly evict them. They tried to reason with mom but in the end the warden walked in. He reminded them that the law dictates that we have to be over eighteen. We are a bunch of fifteen years old. They walked away dejected. Alice came with an unsure look. She had a dazed expression. She came timidly, "Mom said that you guys are my friends. Is it true?" My heart sank. The others looked at each other and decided not to tell her that I am not human. I showed her a polaroid. She stared blankly. The others invited her to have fun with us. We went up to the library to read a few books and re-enact a few pages from our favorite books.
We stayed till dinner and then Shaw came and dragged us out. I was hopped and skipping. I was delighted that I was with my friends and mom was safe. When I reached the mess hall. Shaw stopped me and asked me nicely if I would join the Army. I told him that I would rather be a civilian. I am still appreciating the fact my family and friends are still alive. Shaw asked again, "Will you consider joining the army when you turn eighteen?" I grinned, "I won't consider it. I am not interested in getting PTSD or getting paralyzed. I am happy holding on to my limbs." He gave me a dirty look as mom walked in and dragged me in to have dinner.
The governor called to tell us that we were being moved to a new location. The prison was compromised. He was sending a few Choppers to take us away. The doctor wasn't pleased to know that her funding was dashed. She said that she was on the verge of a major breakthrough. She needed time but the man said the only thing she has done was make a newer and much worse zombie. The intelligent ones. May God have mercy on us all. The moment I heard this I came running and told the others about the experiments. Mom and Alice's mom didn't believe us so I walked off to find proof. The path to the lab was blocked by a soldier standing tall and stern. I used hypnosis to make him move. I walked in and mom followed me close behind. Alice's mom was not far away. We could hear growling grow louder as we came close to the lab.
The man standing by the door asked for clearance and I told him to shut up and open the door. He did so immediately. I walked in to see tables filled with all sorts of chemicals. Wall to wall lined with different types of machines. There was only one door and it was locked. I knocked till the guy on the other end opened it. I used hypnosis and made my way in. I got to see the new brand of horrors that was waiting to strike terror in the hearts of humanity. Their skins were light grey. There were lines on their faces consistent with the direction of the muscles fibers. Their teeth looked like they were only made of canine teeth. I walked closer to them and they came close too. But when I turned my eyes black they backed away like they had seen a lion or shark. I changed my eyes back to normal and told it to stay the heck away from my family or I will rip it to confetti. Mom grabbed me and walked out there.
Alice's mom came with us. She looked a little disillusioned. But that feeling lasted only a second. The moment she was given orders she behaved as though she had seen absolutely nothing in that room. Mom and I were speechless at her. When Sonja asked me what happened I responded that Alice's mom has lost her marbles. She wanted details and I gave them to her. She quickly snuck off to tell the others and I went to the medical wing. I saw that the place was lightly guarded. I was about to move in and snatch a blood bag when I heard a distinct heartbeat. I recognized it as my brother. I turned to see that he wasn't alone. He asked me why I was here and I said that I came to restock the first aid kit. I showed him an empty box. His friend kindly informed me that I won't get a refill because the med bay needs all it has. I thanked him and went to use the restroom.
I used echolocation and found where the blood bags were. I also heard the tech say that they were going to a place where vampires and werewolves might be so he has come up with a brilliant idea. He has counted every last blood bag present and he coated the cover with a colorless powder dye that will change color when it touches water. The dye will remain for eleven days before it begins to fade. Also the box in which the blood bag is getting an upgrade. If anyone opens the box must put in a five digit code before taking the blood bag or the alarm will go off. I walked out of the room feeling dejected and hungry. I explained my dilemma to Sonja and she took me to the shower blocks. She pulled a needle with a tube and inserted it into her arm. I was given the other end. She told me to tell her when to pull it out. Irene and the others stood guard. I took seven mouthfuls and waved my hand to say no more. Irene put a cotton ball on a band aid to patch it up. Then we walked out of there to see a few men staring at us like they hadn't seen women since Abraham Lincoln was president. We came back to the cellblocks when mom came to tell us to pack our stuff. We were going to a new location.
Huge Choppers came to airlift us out of there. Mom and I were on the helicopter with Shaw and his buddies. Shaw kept staring at me like he knew what was happening to me but was in complete doubt. He asked me how I was able to recover. I said that I got a bone marrow transplant and was given gene therapy. My uncle is wealthy enough to make it happen. He gave it a brief thought and moved on. I chuckled, "Mom I hope you aren't wearing your boring clothes because the moment we land we will be hosed." Mom gave me a look and kissed my forehead, "Remind me to thank your uncle when I see him." I blurted, "You can't thank him mom. He is a zombie. I saw him on my way to the prison" mom held my hand and wept till we landed. True to my words we were hosed.
Afterwards the others were shown their tents. Mom and I were escorted to the barracks. We were settling in when the alarm went off. Shaw told us to stay here. The mad had brought her specimens here. The smart ones were relatively calm. They stared at us as we went by. Mom held on to me for dear life and we were given the all clear. I got to go out and play basketball with a few kids before going to see my gals. They were playing chess. I sat with them and gave them an update. Annie asked me if I knew how to fly one of these Choppers should these things get loose. I gave her word that I can. The girls promised to keep their belongings in their bags in case we have to bolt. A woman in a military garb came and said it was time for lessons. She escorted us to a bigger tent and we each were given a tablet. The teacher started talking about physics and I zoned out.
At least I pretended to zone out. What I did was use echolocation to keep track of zombies. They were strapped down and the general was yelling to have them gun down. The woman said the restoration of intelligence is the first step to bring them back so he is not allowed to harm them in any shape of or form. The governor advised her to take a few tissue samples and figure out how to tweak the formula. She has an hour and then he is going to order the men and women in arms to start shooting at these things. The general gave the orders and the men surrounded the cages with their guns pointed at the beasts. The woman gave him a sour look and did as she was told. After the one hour mark the intelligent ones were gunned down. The woman pleaded but her pleas were ignored.
After classes were done I sat down to finish my homework. The others went to have dinner. I finished my homework and handed it in. The teachers were impressed. After they finished marking my grades I went back to my room. Mom was waiting for me with a shawarma. I waited till we were inside my room to eat. Mom went to sleep and I pretended to sleep. I decided to look through Sonja's memories. All of them were positive. I grinned as I saw how she was fumbling with her homework. I made a conscious decision to help her out. The next day we were escorted to an open space where we were given combat training. We were told that when we were older we would be joining the military. I reminded them that joining the army is voluntary. They can't force us. The woman gave us a look and she said that the law was being changed. I asked her if I talked to the governor right now would he agree to her terms. Her face turned red and livid. At the opportune moment the governor came and I asked him. He said that it will remain voluntary so I had nothing to worry about. The lessons began and the woman gave me the death stare throughout the class.
At lunch time Shaw came and was told about my little chat. He gave her a look and told her that I am not going to be a problem. After much deliberation Shaw asked me to come with him. I told him that I am helping my friends with their homework. He said it will only take a minute. We walked and he asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I said that I have the rest of my life to figure it out. I don't need someone breathing down my neck. So do the world a favor and leave me alone. He said, "In case you have forgotten the entire world has come crashing down. You need to figure out what you want because if you don't. Someone else will decide for you."
I was about to tell him to shut up when the alarm went off. I used my enhanced vision to see that the zombies have escaped. I calmly walked back as Shaw tried to figure out what was going on. I told the girls to get back to the tent and get their relatives since the zombies are loose. I told them to go to the nearest Chopper. I told them that I am going to find mom so we get out of here. They calmly walked till they were certain others knew what was going on and then they bolted to find their relatives. I found mom near the medical tent. I told her what was going on and dragged her kicking and screaming towards the others. We hopped in and I flipped a few switches. Shaw and his friends saw me and ran towards me. I knew that I would have to explain how I had learned to fly a military aircraft if he got on board so I took off. Mom was in disbelief that we were compromised till she saw those things rip people to pieces. I flew off into the horizon wondering what place on earth is safe enough. I have a full tank of gas so for now I have to keep my head on the game. Get us as far from here as possible.
