Reed watched in silence as Lyn put away the suit, taking another sip of water.
He took another sip before putting the bottle away.
"Now then, onto the final category, the support items."
He brought out a mask.
"This mask will give you ten minutes of breathable air, you can use it in a toxic environment or underwater, it's not very durable, so be careful when using it."
Lyn took the mask and tried it on.
It fit her face, completely hiding it from outside view as she looked out of a pair of small holes covered by some clear material. Somehow, it did not fall off, even when she shook her head and tried to throw it off.
But it came off easily when she put her hand to it.
"How does it stick like that?" She asked the knowledgeable person in the room.
Reed just smiled for a moment, before speaking.
"I have no idea." He spoke in a gleeful tone, uncaring of how ridiculous that seemed.
Lyn blinked as the response registered in her mind.
"But you made this, didn't you?" She asked, and he nodded.
"Item creation," He said. "I have made a theory that has been proven to quite an extent." He brought out a small blue disc with a grey edge, it was the size of his palm. "I first thought that it depended on my knowledge, and it filled the unknown part by brute-forcing it using mana."
He tossed the disc to her.
"But that changed as I made my mana cells and gained access to extremely large amounts of mana, I discovered then that it did not matter whether I knew anything about the object I wanted or not, as long as I had enough energy to throw at the skill, it could make anything."
[Insect repellent] [Tier 2]
[When activated, it can drive away all Tier 3 and below insects within fifty meters of this device]
[Note: This shouldn't be in this world]
Lyn read the description of the time Reed had tossed at her.
"And after I made that, I did a few more tests to complete my theory." Reed clapped his hands. "It turns out, the skill automatically scans my knowledge, or has access to my knowledge at all times, to see if I have any information about the object I want to make. If I don't, I theorize that it reaches out to some other knowledge bank in the game's system, and scans that to find the thing I want, then reproduces it in this world."
"I tested this by making something I had little to no knowledge about, a healing ointment made from the flora from the local region, it took about the same amount of mana it takes to fire twenty fireballs."
Reed brought out a book as he spoke and showed Lyn the cover.
"Then I went and found this book. It contains a lot of the local plants, flowers, fruits, and most of their properties. and read it end to end. Then I ran the skill again, imagining the same item, and lo and behold!" Reed dramatically splayed his arms.
"The mana cost was a quarter of what I needed the previous time, and the results were the same. Same effect, same volume, same color, smell, everything!"
Lyn watched Reed as he began to calm down after this little speech of his.
"Ah-hem." He cleared his throat. "So, the item creation skill replicates items that are already present in a databank that belongs to the system, or something of that nature."
"So... This...?" Lyn lifted the mask in her hands.
"That's something I have no idea how it works, and since it doesn't seem to have a storage space for air, it's best to just treat it like a game item, since we are in a game."
'That makes... quite a bit of sense.' Lyn had actually forgotten that they were in a game. Sure, it was a deadly one that pitted almost all of its participants against each other, but it was still a game, so some things that didn't make sense were to be expected.
'There are already quite a few of them already.' And there were, the events, the traits, the storage spaces, Reed's personal helper, and even the fact that they were in a fantasy world, being forced to fight in this deadly game, all of them were so far from the reality that she had known for so long that she had been just going with the flow.
She had been ignoring the fact that she was very much in danger here, a fact that realized just now.
She had not been thinking about the future, and as she started to panic, she was broken from her thoughts by something that hit her head like a sledgehammer.
She hadn't noticed, but Reed's hand was on her head, with his thumb on her forehead.
Something had clicked into place, and she could feel something, but her mind was reeling and incapable of forming coherent thoughts as it tried to recover from whatever had slammed into it.
She collapsed to the floor and started to lose her grip on consciousness as Reed kneeled on the ground next to her.
Her vision started to darken as Reed crouched next to her, his face obscured due to a light behind him.
Her head fell to the side, and the last things she saw before she completely lost consciousness were Reed's knees.
Reed looked at her as he confirmed that she was actually out cold and not just pretending.
Then he carefully snaked his hands under her, then picked her up in a princess carry and walked out of the room.
