“Can’t we talk about this later?” I asked between my teeth.
Mom just narrowed her hazel eyes at me, slamming a stack of papers down on the kitchen counter between us. “Not just yet,” she said tightly. “You are being completely unreasonable and I won’t stand for it.”
I laughed a hard, frustrated laugh. “I just don’t see how keeping my options open for a bit longer is being unreasonable,” I pointed out, trying to keep my tone level.
Mom wasn’t the least bit impressed. If anything, my attempts were just making her angrier. “Astronomy is not a viable option to keep open,” she said between her teeth.
I smiled pleasantly at her. “I don’t see how it isn’t,” I said with a shrug. “It’s a well-respected field of research with plenty of opportunities for employment. I’ve heard Caltech has a decent program.”
