The invaders rushed forward all at once, yet the Kurta youth resisted until the end.
Boom!
He finally collapsed under the overwhelming numbers. An outsider stepped up and took the youth's eyes, only to spark a dispute among several other intruders over the spoils. That sight chilled the Kurta survivors to the core.
They were all human beings. Yet the Kurta had been treated as nothing but cattle or merchandise; their lives were meaningless in the eyes of these invaders, who cared nothing for whether they deserved to live.
A middle-aged Kurta man watched as his daughter's limbs were cut off. A woman witnessed her parent's heads battered into pulp, one strike after another. High above, greed, fury, and hatred intermingled, creating an almost suffocating pressure. Countless anguished cries of resentment filled the air.
Ron spotted many familiar figures. Lakin from the Heil-Ly Family was here, already clutching a pair of scarlet eyes, their eerie glow shining red. Nearby stood Machi, someone Ron had worked with before, though she wasn't taking part in the fighting.
All the members of the Phantom Troupe had gathered. Their positions made their roles obvious:
- Uvogin and Phinks at the very front.
- Nobunaga on the flank.
- Franklin at the rear.
- At the center, Chrollo stood holding a book, face unreadable.
- Pakunoda guarded Chrollo's side.
- Machi waited just behind Uvogin
and Nobunaga, ready to support them.
- Shalnark manipulated several puppets to battle the Kurta.
- Bonolenov stood to one side of Phinks.
- Feitan roamed freely, weaving in and out on his own.
- Kortopi remained on Chrollo's other side.
-Troupe's No. 8 wich Ron did recognize was also there. Making all twelve members present.
Ron mentally tallied them:
1. Chrollo, the leader
2. Main attackers: Uvogin and Phinks
3. Secondary attackers: Nobunaga and Bonolenov
4. Healer: Machi
5. Support: Shalnark, Pakunoda
6. Wild cards: Kortopi and Feitan
7. Defense/rearguard: Franklin, plus the Troupe's No. 8
(In the original story, No. 8 was said to have been killed by Silva. But that time hasn't come yet, so the eighth member is still the original occupant aslo no Shizuku so they arent 13. )
Their overall strength was truly formidable—particularly Chrollo and Feitan, whose aura set them distinctly apart from the rest. The remaining members showed power discrepancies too, but those gaps weren't huge.
Even then, it was clear the Kurta clan had put up a tough fight. Their numbers were now reduced, but every one of them left standing was a top-tier Nen user—A-rank. One such youth, with spiky black hair, had one eye blood-red while the other remained dark. When a dozen or so outsiders rushed him, he inhaled deeply and spat forth a ferocious blaze, instantly igniting everything within tens of meters. Two of the attackers suffered severe burns.
An invader tried sneaking behind the youth, driving a blade clean through his body—yet it passed harmlessly, as though slicing empty air. The youth turned and slammed a fist into the attacker's face.
Boom!
A perfect hit to the man's forehead.
Crack!
Bone fragments splintered. His nose collapsed, his facial structure shattered, and both eyes burst into gore. Screaming in agony, he clutched his ruined face. The youth showed no mercy, crushing his throat with one swift grip.
Ron studied the youth, feeling a faint sense of recognition.
"That power resembles Kamui, the ability Uchiha Obito used—letting parts of the body become intangible."
Given this world's potential for unique Nen abilities, Ron wasn't particularly astonished. Long ago, in the Fiora Kingdom, he met Eri, who could turn his entire body into flame, rendering all physical blows ineffective. So someone with partial intangibility wasn't too surprising.
Elsewhere, a flash of black caught Ron's eye. Not actual light, but a person—a Kurta in black, darting through the crowd at high speed. In every pause, another weaker outsider fell dead. The Kurta evidently chose his victims wisely.
Trailing behind him were streaks of afterimages. One of the Heil-Ly Family lieutenants saw this and paled.
"That technique… Isn't that from the Zoldyck Family? Could he be a Zoldyck himself? Or maybe the Kurta and Zoldyck families are connected somehow?"
Hearing this, a few others hesitated. The Kurta showed startling power already, but the Zoldyck name inspired even greater dread. Some muttered among themselves:
"If there really is a link, might the Zoldycks come after us for revenge?"
"So what? We've already got the eyes we came for. No way we're giving them up now."
"There's no reason to fear them—there are lots of us here, including some from Kakin and Mingbo. Compared to that, who are the Zoldycks?"
"The Kurta clan's strong, but they're still about to be wiped out, aren't they? Besides, after all we've done, do you really think we can just back down now?"
Ron merely listened in silence. As a Zoldyck himself, he knew perfectly well that the Kurta had no connection to his family. Nearby, one boisterous outsider snorted:
"The Zoldycks? They're just legends people blow out of proportion! If I see one, I'll kill him on the spot!"
Ron glanced his way.
"What are you staring at, kid?"
