Chapter 313

Unexpectedly, there was such an accidental windfall.

Kakin, Mingbo, and Meteor City—those three faction's true objective wasn't the Scarlet Eyes but rather Sumas.

The Scarlet Eyes were just a smokescreen.

Even Sheila, who had exposed the Kurta Clan's hiding place, wasn't aware of that.

But her own goal was achieved nonetheless.

In this operation targeting the Kurta Clan, the clan suffered enormous losses, basically annihilated. However, those who died at the Kurta Clan's hands weren't few either.

The Kurta Clan was powerful.

We won't even talk about those "stages" Sumas constructed.

Any Kurta Clan Nen user was no weakling.

There were plenty at A-level:

One specialized in incredible speed.

One could make his body intangible.

One possessed extremely powerful flame abilities.

One could conjure a giant.

…

Even the Phantom Troupe felt tremendous pressure.

Kakin, Mingbo, and Meteor City attacked jointly and even used a weapon resembling the Rose, enough to prove how formidable the Kurta Clan was—far stronger than the Mafia around the world, stronger even than Meteor City.

Then, on top of that, the old man appeared later.

"In the original story, when Uvogin spoke of the Kurta Clan as strong, it wasn't just an empty boast. He genuinely acknowledged the Kurta Clan's power," Ron thought.

"These three factions were all after Sumas.

In the end, none of them got it— It ended up in my hands."

"A mobile Nen Spirit…that's an incredible treasure.

It's worth far more than the Colosseum ever was."

Ron's heart filled with delight.

"The reason I could gain Sumas's acknowledgment is likely because my Observer's Intent absorbed so many Kurta characteristics, throwing Sumas off.

"It's like how I ended up in the Trial Grounds before.

None of the other outsiders went in—only me.

"Besides, I have plenty of time.

Taking control of Sumas can't be done quickly; it requires a long process.

After all, it's a powerful Nen Spirit.

"But I brought plenty of food and water in Killer Queen's internal space.

I can hold out just fine.

"By sheer coincidence, the biggest prize falls to me. Kakin, Meteor City, and Mingbo all provided free labour for me, how nice of them.

"That said, the Kurta Clan's fate was truly tragic— Being exposed by Sheila for that self-centred reason, annihilated, cruelly murdered, losing their Scarlet Eyes and everything else—anyone would find it hard to accept.

"But I have neither the position nor the ability to change their destiny.

Best to keep quiet about Sumas.

"That old man feels guilty about dragging me in. But if he knew I could actually gain control of Sumas and take away the Nen Spirit, his attitude might change."

Ron stayed silent.

For a moment, no one spoke in that sealed chamber.

The old man glanced at Sheila, then back at Ron.

"Ron, I'm sorry for making you face this fate," he said again.

"All our lives are about to end. Let's at least talk for a while, instead of dying in silence.

You look young. Having so much power at your age—where are you from? You said you're an assassin? I recall there's a famous Zoldyck Family…"

Ron cut him off.

"I'm indeed a member of the Zoldycks. My full name is Ron Zoldyck."

The old man's pupils contracted slightly.

"That's even more regrettable. As one of the Zoldycks, you would've had a good future if not for this mess. Hardly anyone could threaten you.

"Your Zoldyck Family has it much better than we Kurta ever did.

No one would ever target you."

Hearing the name Zoldyck, Sheila cast a glance at Ron as well.

Back in Meteor City, Sheila had heard of the Zoldycks.

In the Phantom Troupe's investigations, it was noted that one buyer of Meteor City's people from the Elders was someone from the Zoldycks.

Sheila wasn't part of the Troupe but did maintain a certain connection with them.

They'd all been childhood friends, after all; even if they had chosen different paths, some ties still remained.

"Grandmaster Maha's power is enough to make anyone wary," the old man sighed.

"If I had power on par with Maha, perhaps my Kurta Clan wouldn't have been destroyed today."

After a pause, he added,

"All right, let me tell you something about our Kurta Clan."

Nearing the end of his life,

the old man had no desire to die quietly. He decided to reveal the Kurta Clan's secrets, long kept hidden in his heart—like a stopper blocking his chest.

Now was finally a chance to speak them out, with no fear of anyone using that knowledge for ill.

Besides, the Kurta Clan had already been destroyed.

The old man couldn't imagine that anyone in that previous onslaught could still be alive. And Ron and Sheila had no way of revealing anything.

"You from Meteor City claim that Meteor City folk and outsiders aren't the same type," the old man said softly. "But truly, we of the Kurta Clan are the ones who don't belong.

"Do you know why the Scarlet Eyes are called one of the Seven Most Beautiful Colors in the world?

Are the Scarlet Eyes really so pretty?

Is there no ruby more beautiful than them?"

He turned to Ron.

"Ron, did your family ever mention the Seven Most Beautiful Colors?"

Ron shook his head.

"No, but I've encountered the Colorful Egg and the Crystal Featherbone."

"Have you heard of the Dark Continent?"

"Yes."

The old man's eyes lit slightly.

"Then have you heard about the Five Great Calamities of the Dark Continent?"

Ron nodded.

Slowly, the old man began to speak:

"Actually, the human continent is very small. In the vastness of this world, the human domain is merely a little island on a lake. Outside the lake is where the true world lies, the landmass is huge— That's the Dark Continent, which isn't a region fit for human habitation.

"But it's far 'richer' than humanity's land. Full of danger, yes, but also filled with treasures.

"A very long time ago, humanity carried out expeditions to the Dark Continent. Countless lives were lost, but some things were brought back.

"That's how the Seven Most Beautiful Colors came to be.

"There's the Crystal Featherbone, which carries potent toxins.

"The Colorful Egg, which, if eaten, can strengthen the body.

"A liquid mineral extremely valuable for technology.

"The Aquamarine Glass that induces hallucinations.

"A white-scaled fish—White Fire—that can enhance one's aura if eaten.

"A yellow metal that can awaken hidden potential.

"And the Scarlet Eyes.

"But in truth, the Scarlet Eyes themselves weren't the real find. The real find was Sumas. The Scarlet Eyes were merely the price paid: both a gift and a disease.

"It's just that, in the Kurta Clan, the Scarlet Eyes manifested their uses so clearly that people viewed them as a treasure."

What the old man said surprised Ron.

He knew of the Seven Most Beautiful Colors but hadn't known their origin.

He never imagined they all came from the Dark Continent.

Additionally, Ron had previously only known six of them.

"That yellow metal that can awaken hidden potential? I wonder what its effect would be like…"

His eyes flickered as the old man went on:

"It's just like the current Five Great Calamities of the Dark Continent…"
