You know what? There's something true about only being able to see something clearly from a distance.
Kirri was never a believer of God and whatever was happening before in the name of Gods? That was all her and Muso's schemes to stay on top of the villagers. Not her best memories but, hers nonetheless.
So, to witness those two babies call out the rain without calling for it? It was mind blowing. She froze in place. What had she done.
Before it all happened, She had a choice. Staging a play and make them fail on purpose so, that the villagers would leave them alone until they have grown but, alas! Maybe they are the Gods in the flesh.
She couldn't stomach anything at the celebrations. She felt guilty and pity. They were just babies to have those shackles on their limbs that early wasn't fair. They were just babies!
"Kirri..." Called out Rena when she realized something was wrong with her, "Can I help you with anything?"
"Rena... Oh, Rena. I made one grave mistake... I don't think I can live with myself after this" Kirri cried aloud which was in itself an alarming bell to Rena but, she was also in the rain, too near to the villagers to cry that loud.
Rena could never say that she knows Kirri that much but, the woman never let's her emotions run wild. She's always in control. She absolutely cares about what people perceive of her so, she does her best to uphold those expectations.
"Should we go back home?" Asked Rena silently while hugging the crying Kirri.
"The babies?" Inquired Kirri pointing at Muso's medicinal hut where they performed a rain ritual
"They are coming back with us" Answered Rena kissing Kirri's forehead unconsciously.
"Wha_ How?" Asked Kirri shocked beyond comparison
"I figured to lay that the mother stays with their children in the forest so as to boost their ability beforehand could come handy" Explained Rena making Kirri so happy!
Rena didn't know just how much Kirri can be proud of someone before that for, she stood and started dancing around in the rain with only the moon to help Rena see her silhouette and it was perfect.
Kirri was already to be considered old but, that night? Kirri was a little bit older to a day old baby.
Whatever they had wasn't normal. A woman of Kirri's age dancing? That's something to be frowned upon. Two adult women dancing together in the rain, that too wasn't narrated to anyone.
Good thing it wasn't the men of the village but their offspring who saw them and they clearly didn't have what it took to talk to women of Kirri's age directly and it was even impossible to tell on them.
"How are you?" Asked Rena when she saw how much Kirri was breathless and stopped her from continuing
"I need to breathe" Replied Kirri with a giggle something Rena realized she likes about Kirri.
"Can we return to the hut now?" Asked Rena gesturing to their drenched attire which Kirri just giggled as her reply.
The walk there was surprisingly short but, one couldn't miss the weird stares they were getting from the women of the village. Rena wasn't worried about it but, she was terrified to be given the cold shoulder for it.
"Took you long enough, woman" Commented Muso followed by a dissatisfied grunt.
"So, we attended women business. Did you need something?"
"Ekele was making a fuss but, I calmed him down" Said Muso all proud. If she didn't know any better she could say that Muso believed that he was in presence with the Gods.
"Good. Thank you the wise" Spoke Rena humbly going to check on her babies if they were still breathing, Hida first.
"When is my bond ceremony with Rena?" Asked Kirri from nowhere choking Muso and making Rena gagging. What's going on.
"Why?"
"I heard It's what the Gods would want" Countered Kirri with a poker face.
"I thought you didn't want to"
"Heard it from me?"
"You were insinuating though"
"I'm ready to break our bond and bond with Rena. The wise, please bless our union" Begged Kirri with her face down and her on her knees, hands touching Muso's thighs.
"Why?" Asked Muso heartbroken. With all the years together. He never saw her that distant with him. She was the only person to fight blow for blow so, that humility side? He didn't know if he loved seeing it from her.
"I'll be out of your wing and you can bond with Shetio with no repercussions" Added Kirri supporting her case.
"How?" Trailed off Muso, holding his cane.
"I told you before, if you stop talking and focus on learning. You'd be surprised" Said Kirri.
"The girl has no listening ability" Said Muso out of nowhere making Kirri raise her head to glare at him.
"Too bad they can't be apart now, isn't it?" Replied Rena as an afterthought blowing her baby's eyes and she giggled at that.
"You dare to talk?"
"I don't remember being unable, I just chose not to" Replied Rena seriously.
"Is this what you women do in the forest?" Questioned Muso directed to Kirri who was surprised yet impressed.
"Where you left us for the dead?" Questioned Kirri after she gained back her composure, "Your reign without those bubbles is as a myth as the life after death"
"You are coming back to the village after your bond" Announced Muso angrily.
"I think not. We just made peace with the lions and snakes, it wouldn't be fair to leave" Replied Kirri sarcastically making Rena chuckle.
"The rain is not letting up. I think we should stay the night"
"Of course dearest. We need this hut, Muso"
"But, it's mine"
"You want to know what I'm capable of?" Threatened Kirri with a smile and that was all it was needed to get rid of Muso.
