"Elder sister…"
Rem looked at Ram, clearly waiting for her decision.
No matter what, as long as her sister Ram was willing to go with Kahn, she would follow without hesitation.
"big brother, will you take care of Rem?"
Ram looked at Kahn with serious eyes. Rather than thinking of herself, she prioritized her sister's well-being.
"Of course."
Kahn crouched down slightly, smiling warmly. "In this vast universe, fate has brought us together. When my wife and I had nowhere to stay, you took us in without hesitation. Now that you're homeless, of course, I'll take you in.
"With me, you'll live a carefree life. No one will ever bully you again."
Ram remained silent for a moment before turning to look at the remains of her village—burned to the ground, filled with nothing but ruins and corpses.
After a few seconds, she turned back to Kahn and Zalama and gave a firm nod.
Roswaal's actions had left them with no home, their parents and people slaughtered. Staying here was no longer an option.
Following Kahn was the best choice—no, the only choice.
Otherwise, she and Rem would be left to fend for themselves, with no certainty of survival.
Seeing Ram agree, Kahn's smile deepened.
This trip through Universe 6 had been quite rewarding.
He had now brought back a pair of twin maids.
Ram's domestic skills might not be the best, but Rem's housework abilities were top-tier.
With that, Kahn took the Ram Rem sisters back to the God of Destruction's palace.
"Wow!"
"Wow!"
The moment they arrived, the twin sisters looked up at the towering, majestic structure before them, completely stunned.
Compared to their humble village, the God of Destruction's palace was like something out of a dream.
Ram, regaining her composure, hesitated before asking, "big brother… who exactly are you and Sister Zalama?"
She had felt from the start that Kahn and Zalama weren't ordinary travelers.
After all, who could afford to live in a palace like this?
"It doesn't matter who we are," Kahn said with a chuckle. "You'll understand when you're older. For now, just enjoy life here."
"Alright," Ram said, deciding not to press further.
If someone lived in such a grand place, they had to be trustworthy, right?
"Now, little sister Esdeath has company here," Zalama said with a smile.
Just as she finished speaking, a young girl in a maid outfit stepped out of the palace.
"Lord Kahn, you've returned!"
The maid, Esdeath, immediately spotted Ram and Rem at Kahn's side and tilted her head in curiosity. "Lord Kahn, who are they…?"
Kahn introduced them to each other and said, "From today onward, Ram and Rem will be staying here. Get along well."
Esdeath gave a polite nod. "My name is Esdeath. Ram, Rem, nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you, too."
Ram extended her hand, shaking Esdeath's.
And just like that, they officially met.
"Esdeath, while Zalama and I were away, did you familiarize yourself with the palace?"
"Yes, Lord Kahn!" Esdeath nodded proudly. "I've explored every part of the palace multiple times. I know it well now!"
"Good. Then take Ram and Rem on a tour so they can get used to their new home."
"Understood, Lord Kahn!"
Esdeath turned to the twins. "Alright, Ram, Rem, follow me. I'll show you around."
As Esdeath led them away, Zalama turned to Kahn. "Husband, now that we have Ram and Rem, that makes three maids. Do you think that's enough?"
Kahn stroked his chin in thought. "For now, it should be. Rem is extremely skilled at housework, so managing the palace shouldn't be an issue."
"But…" He smirked. "I wouldn't mind adding a few more if fate allows."
In Re:Zero, Rem managed Roswaal's entire mansion flawlessly. With time, she could easily manage the God of Destruction's palace just as efficiently.
Kahn had no doubt about that.
Still, having more maids would certainly be nice… aesthetically speaking.
Zalama chuckled. "So you do think we need more maids."
Kahn didn't deny it.
Half an hour later, Esdeath returned with Ram and Rem.
She had only shown them the second floor, which housed their living quarters. The rest of the palace could wait.
"Big brother," Ram said seriously, "Since Rem and I will be living here, please let us work for you."
She felt uncomfortable living here for free.
After all, Kahn wasn't their parent. He had no obligation to take care of them.
"You can work as maids, just like Esdeath."
That had been Kahn's plan all along.
"Yeah! Thank you, Kahn, big brother!"
Both Ram and Rem agreed without hesitation.
They couldn't think of any other way to repay Kahn's kindness.
Kahn smiled. "But you're still young. For now, just enjoy yourselves. There isn't much housework to do here anyway."
"Okay, big brother! I understand!"
Kahn then turned to Rem. "Rem, do you want to become as strong as your sister?"
"I… can I?"
Rem was uncertain.
Among the ghost clan, twins born with only one horn were usually seen as weaklings and abandoned.
Ram was an exception—a rare prodigy.
Meanwhile, Rem had always been considered inferior.
She had grown up feeling inadequate, unable to match her sister.
Kahn smiled reassuringly. "Of course you can."
Hearing this, Esdeath's interest was immediately piqued.
She had been waiting for Kahn's return for one reason—training.
"Lord Kahn!" she said eagerly. "When will you teach me to become stronger?"
Her ice-blue eyes were filled with the desire for power.
Kahn chuckled. "Don't you already feel stronger?"
"Huh?"
Esdeath clenched her fist, focusing.
She gasped. "Wait… my power… it's increased?!"
Zalama explained, "That's because the palace is filled with divine energy. Just by staying here, you naturally absorb it. You didn't notice it before, but you've been growing stronger all along."
Esdeath's eyes widened.
So simply being here made her stronger?
What kind of place was this?
