Chapter 166: Thunder & Storm

The smoke of battle coiled through the square, the clashing of weapons and the cries of the villagers blending into the chaos.

While the Kumo shinobi struggled to contain the uprising, two figures faced each other in the center of the battlefield, surrounded by a storm of dust and sparks.

Borei—**or rather, Shōgeki—**stood still.

Before him, Noriaki advanced.

His steps were slow, measured, his eyes fixed on his prey.

His blade crackled with lightning chakra.

"You're nothing but a nuisance."

Borei didn't respond.

And then—

Noriaki vanished.

A flash.

A thunderclap.

Then, impact.

"Raiton: Raikage-ryū – Shiden Ken!"(雷遁・雷影流 – 紫電拳, Lightning Release: Raikage Style – Lightning Fist!)

The punch struck Borei square in the chest.

The shockwave shook the ground, the walls trembled, the stones were lifted into the air.

Raw lightning energy surged through his body like a merciless current.

Then—

Borei was sent flying.

He tumbled through debris, smashing through crates and splintering wood, his breath ragged, the metallic taste of blood on his tongue.

But as the pain seared his muscles—

Borei smiled.

A defiant look.

Noriaki narrowed his eyes.

Why is he smiling?

Then—he felt it.

The subtle hiss of an explosive tag.

Noriaki glanced down.

Three tags—

One on his shoulder.One at his waist.One on his thigh.

Still midair, Borei raised his hand slightly.

"Boom."

BOOM!

The explosions tore through the air.

The blast wave shattered the ground, sending shockwaves through the battlefield.

A thick veil of smoke swallowed everything.

But—

A blue flash streaked through the darkness.

Too fast to be caught in the flames.

Emerging from the explosion, Noriaki was already preparing his counterattack.

Still in the air, Borei had already drawn a fan of shuriken.

"Fūton: Kaze Shuriken!"(風遁・風手裏剣, Wind Release: Wind Shuriken!)

The blades cut through the air with a deadly whistle.

Wrapped in wind chakra, they became almost invisible, razor-sharp.

Noriaki twisted his sword, deflecting three of them—

But the last two changed trajectory.

They sliced across his arm.

Deep cuts.

Blood dripped onto the stone.

Noriaki paused.

Then, slowly, he lifted his head.

And smirked.

"Interesting."

Then—

He vanished.

A violent impact.

Borei doubled over.

A kick slammed into his stomach.

A second strike sent him hurtling backward.

"Raiton: Kaminari Ken!"(雷遁・雷剣, Lightning Release: Blade of Thunder!)

The sword struck Borei's side.

The lightning chakra burned through his clothing, the fabric instantly charred to ash.

But—

Just as the blade was about to carve into flesh,

A spark flashed in the air.

Borei's knuckle kunai—

Charged with the same lightning chakra!

For an instant, their energies clashed, repelling each other.

But even absorbing some of the impact—

The pain was merciless.

Borei's body was thrown backward, his breath unsteady.

Blood dripped from his lip.

As he rolled through the dust, a memory flashed through his mind.

- - - 23 Months Ago - - -

Northern Training Grounds.

The Fourth Mizukage stood before a kneeling genin, the boy's body marked with bruises and wounds.

"So, with those abilities, you survived an ANBU?"

The boy lifted his gaze.

His eyes were steady, certain, unwilling to look away from Yagura.

"Yes."

No hesitation.

Yagura smirked.

"Good."

Then, he turned to an ANBU.

"Moray. Test his capabilities. Show no mercy."

The ANBU moved slowly.

The air crackled with electricity.

The genin took his stance.

Training was about to begin.

- - - 22 Months Ago - - -

A lightning bolt illuminated the night.

The ANBU stood over the kneeling boy.

"That was a thousand volts. Give up, kid. You're too young to train with Lightning Release to this extent."

Heavy rain soaked the muddy ground.

The air buzzed with charged chakra, a storm ready to consume him.

the young Genin didn't move.

His arms trembled.

His body was at its limit.

But his eyes remained the same.

Unyielding.Undefeated.Unbroken.

"Keep going."

The ANBU raised his hand.

The next discharge was even stronger.

The electricity surged through the Genin's body like a lethal wave.

Yet still—

the Genin did not scream.

Not even once.

Present Day – The Final Battle

Borei landed heavily.

His side burned, his body ached.

But his eyes—

Were still those of that same boy.

The one who never surrendered.

He lifted his gaze, still breathless.

Noriaki stood above him, sword still crackling.

"Are you done playing?"

Borei wiped his mouth, smearing the blood away with a slow motion.

Then—he smirked.

"I don't play."

The air grew denser.

The wind howled around him.

"I'm just proving how slow you are to understand."

Noriaki froze for a second.

Then, slowly—

He turned his gaze.

And he saw it.

His shinobi were falling.

One after another.

Amidst the battle's smoke, bodies draped in Kumo's emblem lay lifeless on the ground.

The last survivors still fought—

But their movements were slower.

More desperate.

In the shadows, two figures moved with lethal precision.

Kagerō. Hokujin.

No hesitation.No mercy.

A blade slit the throat of a Kumo ninja.

Another was impaled before he could even react.

The order Noriaki had built—

Was crumbling.

The rebellion was beyond control.

It was no longer his to command.

And he was alone.

Borei wiped the blood from his mouth again.

Then, he smiled.

"If you were smarter, you would have noticed sooner."

Noriaki gritted his teeth.

He turned back to Borei, his eyes burning with fury.

Like a man preparing for the final act.

Borei took a step forward.

His knuckle kunai gleamed with Wind chakra.

"But then again, it's not your fault."

He settled into position.

Ready for the final clash.

"A sent the wrong ninja."
