Chapter 249: Su Rou

Chapter 249: Su Rou

"Big brother, you've returned from the Abyssal Rift!" exclaimed Jinwu, his initial surprise quickly shifting to joy upon seeing Lin Langtian approaching. After two months of tense waiting, his worry had built up, and now, seeing Lin Langtian safe, he felt an immense weight lift from his heart.

Lin Langtian chuckled, patting Jinwu on the shoulder. "I returned safely, and the trip was worthwhile. You must have been bored out here alone," he said with a smile. Over these two months, Jinwu, as a high-level beast, had also strengthened significantly; his energy was now even more profound, and Lin Langtian sensed that it wouldn't be long before Jinwu could attempt to break through to the Four Yuan Nirvana Stage.

"Waiting for you was no trouble at all, big brother," Jinwu responded, scratching his head with a grin.

"Good, then let's get going," Lin Langtian said, his gaze shifting in the direction of Wanxiang City. "With the Hundred Empires War nearly ending, it's time for us to visit Wanxiang City." He gestured for Jinwu to follow, and with a nod, Jinwu quickly joined him.

The darkness settled as night fell over the land, shrouding the mountains on the outskirts of Wanxiang City. A small campfire crackled in a remote part of the range where Lin Langtian and Jinwu sat quietly, undisturbed by the intermittent howls of beasts echoing through the darkness.

With a few hours left to travel to Wanxiang City, and considering the dark, Lin Langtian and Jinwu had opted to rest for the night. Stretching by the fire, Lin Langtian smiled, "At this pace, we should reach Wanxiang City by tomorrow."

Jinwu nodded, pleased to have Lin Langtian's company again. "Don't worry, big brother, I'll keep watch tonight." He patted his chest proudly.

Just then, Lin Langtian's senses sharpened, and he looked up alongside Jinwu. From the dense forest ahead, hurried footsteps echoed through the darkness. Lin Langtian remained calm, while Jinwu's hand instinctively tightened, his aura radiating a cold intensity as frost gathered in the air around him.

After a moment, three figures emerged from the shadows, stopping just outside the fire's glow. Leading the group was a stocky, rugged man, followed by two women—one dressed in striking red with a graceful, slender figure, and the other a young girl in green with gentle, innocent features. Her large, dark eyes reflected a hint of fear.

The man cast a wary glance at Lin Langtian and Jinwu before politely clasping his hands. "Gentlemen, a beast horde cut off our path. We noticed your fire and hoped we might rest here a moment, if you'd allow it?"

Jinwu, seeing that Lin Langtian was silent, firmly refused. "No, I'm afraid not."

"You—!" The woman in red frowned, starting to speak before the man raised a hand, urging her to hold back.

"If you're unwilling, then we'll leave," he said, biting his lip and turning to depart. The young girl beside him, however, looked at Lin Langtian with a timid gaze. "We're from the Great Qing Dynasty; we mean no harm. If it's alright, we'd stay just long enough to wait out the horde and leave when it's safe," she said softly, her voice wavering. "If you wish, we can pay you with Nirvana Pills."

Lin Langtian seemed to be in deep thought, and Jinwu quickly motioned for them to leave. The three travelers looked disappointed, with the girl close to tears as they turned to go. Just as they began to walk away, Lin Langtian's calm voice halted them.

"Since we've met, feel free to rest here," he said, his voice a soothing surprise to their ears. They paused, exchanged glances, then moved closer, settling by the fire with slightly tense expressions.

"My friend, I'm Su Kui," the rugged man introduced himself, gesturing to the girl in green. "This is my younger sister, Su Rou," he said, then nodded toward the woman in red. "And this is our companion, Liu Ya." He scratched his head, adding, "We're from the Great Qing Dynasty—just a middle-tier dynasty."

"Oh, so she really is the Su Rou from the Great Qing Dynasty…" Lin Langtian mused. His decision to let them stay wasn't born of kindness alone. He recalled that Su Rou, although appearing timid and unassuming, was rumored to have discovered an invaluable item in the ancient battlefield, one that would lead to her considerable achievements in the future.

Lin Langtian decided it was worth helping, thinking that an alliance with a future powerhouse was always wise. "Lin Langtian," he said simply, gesturing to Jinwu beside him. "And this is my brother, Lin Jinwu."

"We're from the Great Yan Dynasty—a low-tier dynasty," he added, noting their surprised expressions at his unexpected background.

"Lin Langtian, from the Great Yan Dynasty?" The girl in green, Su Rou, suddenly looked up with her large eyes and asked shyly, her voice brimming with curiosity.
