Chapter 35: A Friend’s Perspective

That evening, Wen met Li Yan at a small restaurant, grateful for the distraction from her tangled thoughts. As they settled in with their drinks, Li Yan's keen eyes studied her with curiosity and concern.

"Alright, Wen," Li Yan began, a knowing smile on her face. "What's going on? You look like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders."

Wen sighed, her gaze drifting to her drink. "It's just… everything feels like it's falling apart. Work is intense, and Mei Ling keeps reminding me that I need to focus, that I can't afford distractions."

Li Yan raised an eyebrow. "And by 'distractions,' she means…?"

Wen hesitated, glancing down. "She means Kai. My relationship with him. His family doesn't approve, and it's making everything… complicated."

Li Yan's expression softened, a hint of sympathy in her gaze. "Wen, you've been fighting your whole life. You've sacrificed so much to get here. But maybe it's time to ask yourself if success is worth it if it means giving up something—or someone—you love."

Wen looked at her friend, a flicker of doubt in her eyes. "But what if I lose both? What if, in trying to balance it all, I end up with nothing?"

Li Yan reached across the table, her hand warm and reassuring. "Life isn't about having all the answers. Sometimes, it's about taking a leap of faith. You deserve happiness, Wen. And if Kai makes you happy, maybe that's worth more than any job."

Wen felt her heart lighten, Li Yan's words giving her a new perspective. She had always believed that her success would be measured by her achievements, but perhaps there was more to life than titles and recognition.

As they finished their meal, Wen realized that, while her path was still uncertain, she had people who believed in her, who saw her as more than just her ambition. And maybe, just maybe, that was enough to guide her through whatever lay ahead.
