Survivors

In the chaos and havoc, where reason was replaced by the instinct to survive, Max who was standing close to the entrance of his formal clean, and peaceful class, was shoved multiple times by people who had lost all reasoning.

With every shove Max pushed against James and Alice until they were within the class, the smell of fresh blood and bits of internal organs filled their nostrils. They all refused to look down scared of seeing anyone they knew in a mangled and bloody state laying lifeless on the cold hard floor.

Max looked at both James and Alice trembling with fear and let out a calming breath of air. He placed his hands on their shoulder, towering over them, and gave them a warm smile.

At that moment James and Alice looked up at the smiling Max with hope in their hearts.

'' We….'' he paused to exhale before continuing with a warm smile '' Will make it out of here… all right''.

His shining eyes, reflecting the truth of what he said, coupled with his serious demeanor, greatly comforted the two with him. Max wanted to stay strong and calm, so James and Alice would, too. He was scared, scared of dying like the students in the class, but he realized early on that the panic and fear didn't stop the creature from moving. It didn't make them scared, nor did it kill them, so why bother being scared?

He had to stay calm and not succumb to fear and panic. Max chuckled to himself, realizing that it was easier said than done. However, knowing that this was a matter of life and death, he was determined to do everything he could to maintain his clarity and not let his reasoning slip away to fear and panic.

Screams of pain and agony reached Max, James, and Alice, who seemed lost in their world. Without hesitation, Max began searching for a tool or weapon to protect himself with.

At the front of the class, Max's sight landed on a sharp-looking object, he made his way to the front avoiding blood and organs splatted all over the floor. The sharp-looking object was a metallic ruler that had been broken in half.

The edge of the metallic ruler had a semi-triangular shape, which Max thought was perfect for stabbing. After finding the other piece, he went back to the back of the class.

He gave another piece of the metallic rule to Alice who didn't even hesitate to take it, she gripped it in her hand, pointing it upwards with an almost crazy look. Max glanced at James' slightly masculine body and suggested he grab a chair for protection, James did as he was told without delay.

"DANGER!" Max's cells began to scream again. "It's coming" he calmly whispered to James and Alice, so as not to create panic

He promptly turned around, gripping the rule in his hand, he let out a sigh before taking a fighting stance. His eyes burned with ferocity and his muscles tensed with force.

Soon after a disgusting stench filled the class, the weak stomachs of Max, James, and Alice twisted and turned in discomfort, but they held on without yielding to the stench. It was clear as day to them, the delay caused by vomiting could surely lead to their deaths.

The green-skinned creature stood menacingly behind the entrance of the class. One step, two steps, it stretched its long skinny green legs that looked oddly human and entered the class. It raised the snake-shaped sword above its face and slowly opened its mouth.

The stench that poured out of its opened mouth, visibly assaulted Max, James, and Alice who had their weapons pointed bravely at the creature. It almost made them lose focus as they used what little willpower they had to ignore it.

Out of its opened mouth, a black long, rough, and ugly-looking tongue came out like a venomous snake, and just like a snake it rapidly moved against the blade, licking the blood off it with an almost delighted look in its deep black eyes.

Max broke into a nervous sweat, should he attack? Should he move? Questions began swirling in his head making him feel uneasy and scared but one more glance at James and Alice made him ready to attack.

''Zezezezezezezezezezeze''. The creature laughed, pointing its blade at Max with all its teeth grinding against each other as if excited for what was to come next.

'' Danger, danger, danger''.

In an instant, before Max could react, the creature lunged at him, swinging its blade and aiming for his neck. Max ducked just in time, the blade barely missing him. With his heart still pounding, he was determined not to miss the opportunity to counterattack.

With the creature's arm still in the air, Max with the ruler in both hands lunged himself with full force at the unprotected belly of the creature.

''Max!!'' James yelled with horror plastered over his face.

''BANG!!''.

Max felt a sharp strong pain engulfing the right side of his face, he had been punched by the creature. He fell to the floor with a numb feeling on his face, he wanted to quickly get up but his body was unresponsive.

Like a thunderstorm, Alice began boiling with rage before letting out a scream. As she witnessed Max fall almost lifeless to the ground, it flashed a memory of the peaceful morning before the chaos that followed.

She sat on the chair chatting with her friend, they gleefully smiled as they chatted away, when the white object the size of a human head smashed through the window and landed right on her friend. The image of her lifeless body is still fresh in her head.

Currently, she screamed again before charging straight at the creature, James looked on with envy, he was terrified to even move, yet those two were heading right into danger with only a ruler and no protection. James bit his lips as he prepared to head into the war zone.

''I would rather die a fighter than a coward'' he yelled charging at the creature with a broken chair in hand.

The creature was about to stab the helpless Max on the ground when it shifted its gaze to the crazed Alice running towards it. It pointed its blade at Alice, ready to strike her down just like Max when it noticed James leap from behind Alice.

He held the broken chair high up and swung it down at the head of the creature with immense strength, the creature redirected its blade at James, but at that very moment, it felt a stinging pain in its foot, he looked down to see Max stabbing his foot multiple times with red eyes of fury.

Before it could let out a cry of pain, James smashed the chair on his head with all his might, the chair broke into multiple pieces as soon as contact was made. The creature oozed out a blackish liquid from the injured part of its body before it fell on one knee, dropping its blade in the process.

The next moment Alice stabbed into the creature's skull with such force that the ruler penetrated deep inside before thick black liquid gashed out, making the whole place stinky and messy. The creature fell over backward with no sign of ever getting up.

Max, James, and Alice watched on in anticipation, they expected it to rise again like in the movie but after some minutes went by with not as much as a twitch, they all uniformly let out a huge sigh of relief.

 Alice fell to the floor; her legs numb from the forceful boost of power she gained to attack the creature. James went to Max with a smile, he helped him up on his feet with ease as if he was made out of paper making Max break into a fit of laughter which spread to the others.

'' So, we killed it'' James stated with a slight look of shock. They all cast their gaze on the corpse of the creature lying there, it was quite unbelievable they thought.

''it's killable'' Max looked on with a sense of achievement

'' yeah, I guess so'' James said looking pleased.

'' We should…. help the other'' Alice suggested getting off the floor with shaking legs.

'' Yeah, we should'' both Max and James replied although they looked a bit uneasy, thinking about fighting the creatures again wasn't exactly a nice feeling.

They were about to proceed to the exit of the class feeling down about seeing the dead bodies of their classmate strewn against the cold hard soulless floor when.

'' what is that?'' Alice pointed to the exit, and the boys seeing what she was pointing at dropped their jaws.

The class exit had a translucent green door blocking it, it seemed fluid with a hard structure and gave off a soothing glow that revitalized Max, James, and Alice, compared to before they felt energized.

On the green translucent door was a word inscribed onto it, upon noticing it, the three read it out loud in unison.
