Cube mania

" What a stressful day!" Max said. He was in his room, the sun was setting, and many were preparing for the next day.

After Max escaped, he joined Emily, James, and Alice; in her expensive-looking car, the space was so wide that many more people could fit in with still some space to spare.

They drove an hour to the Dragon Guild headquarters. Arriving at the capital of their state, Nitsua, they easily found the H.Q. It was a flashy, asymmetrical skyscraper that made the city's citizens cover their eyes whenever they saw it. The word Dragon Guild was boldly slapped onto the building, in neon displays that were even flashier than the building itself.

The inside was grand, a stark contrast to the outside. They were sent to the highest floor to meet Vanessa; at least, that is what they thought. Unfortunately, they were stuck waiting in her grandiose office for hours until they were told she couldn't meet them.

They then had to wait several hours for some guy to bring some contracts, only for those contracts to be the wrong ones. They waited for another hour before they got to sign the correct contract with a numb butt and an exhausted expression.

An hour's drive back to their small town of Notleb left them falling into the embrace of sleep until they were each dropped off at their rightful destination.

Throughout this whole ordeal, Max couldn't shake the thought of the deacon and the circumstances surrounding him out of his head; that was a major thought that occupied his mind.

'' A religion is forming around the divinity…. that …. doesn't …. sound …. good '' His worries were exonerated as he drifted off into deep sleep.

''Ting! Ting! ting!''

 .

Max was instantly transported to the floating castle; the long magical transportation sequence took place once more to get him to the destination above.

The floating land was as magnificent as Max remembered, meeting up with his team, they headed for the fountain that oozed off a powerful dominating aura.

The lord of the castle soon appeared in all his splendor making many humans scrunch their faces in annoyance.

'' I hate you puny ants more than you think you hate me'' His ethereal voice resonated throughout; his radiant yellow eyes gazed at the humans below while his hair of pure burning flame swayed masterfully.

The lord of the castle suddenly raised his hand, he clapped twice but no sound was produced. His body radiated intense white light before he vanished.

The moment the lord of the castle disappeared, the fountain and any unique wonder on the floating structure disappeared, leaving it in a bearing state until it began to rumble silently, then like a giant and magical 3D printer, houses, and everyday objects seen on the earth below, formed with incredible speed.

Very soon the floating structure was a one-to-one replica of the surface of the earth. It was so surreal it was almost unbelievable. Many had to smack themselves to prevent the eager desire to explore this fake town.

Many had little time to chat, high above them something was forming; a blob of purple liquid goo, jiggled in the air disobeying all laws of physics and promptly ballooning to the extreme size of a mountain. It hovered above, casting its shadow below and creating a quick day-and-night cycle.

It began jiggling again, this time more profound than before, making the edges expand and contract rapidly. It slowly solidified, taking a familiar shape, a purple cube the size of a mountain.

Soon after forming red pulsating lines appeared on the cube, dividing the cube into many tiny loosely connected cubes, transforming the previously giant cube into a hive of tiny cubes.

''Ting! Ting!''

< the divinity game shall now commence>

Max stared up, witnessing uncountable tiny cubes, the size of a human head, lunch out of the mother cube, before encircling it like a planet to a star. They vibrated, producing a sound reminiscing of buzzing bees.

''Max, James, Alice let's quickly enter that building'' Emily's mouth didn't move, she used her skill to directly communicate with them, they nodded in agreement as they left the overcrowded groups of people.

Max's hidden nullification skill was a bit of a gray area; although it prevented Emily from reading his thoughts, it however didn't prevent her from sending her thoughts to his mind almost making the skill a one-trick pony.

The team entered a small house, a bit far but not enough to prevent the visibility of the crowd. Max stood at the window to gain a direct view of the slowly dispersing crowd; many moved as though the game would be a breeze to finish off.

Their behavior was very alarming to Max; it was incredibly stupid of them to become drunk with power. It was easy to notice many moving in a prideful manner as though the concept of losing didn't exist in their delusional minds, drunk on the magical power that they recently gained.

''Many are acting high and mighty'' Max made his thoughts clear to the others, who instantly agreed with him after witnessing what he did.

Max shifted his gaze above once he was done observing the ground below, the moment he did, the tiny cubes began gliding down as if they weighed nothing. It was quite serene almost making Max forget the situation he was in.

''What a joke'' A man in a bright-colored dress declared loudly, he stood in the center of the fake town making himself visible to all. He began to grin at anyone willing to stare at him as though he was a street performer. '' Watch and learn how a real man deals with pests''

The man posed in a way that suggested strength and power; at least that is what he believed. To anyone who saw him, he looked ridiculous.

The next moment, the man grabbed the air like it was solid, before in one swift motion pulling out a long sword from the nothingness in front of him. He pointed the sword confidently at the gently falling cubes; once one got near, he quickly raised his sword to deliver a deadly slice.

The cube slit in half before the proud man; he expected the cubes to disappear or fall lifeless to the ground but one more glance told a different story.

The cube hovered wavily in the air as though the concept of falling did not exist. The two halves of the cube danced around for a bit before slowly producing a purple liquid goo, that burst out enthusiastically, quickly making the damage sustained non-existent.

The man stood almost speechless as two cubes born from one danced in front of him without regards to his thoughts. Realizing his predicament, the man in the brightly colored dress slowly backed away from the cubes.

After taking a hesitant step, he cursed loudly as two cubes instantly surrounded him; they hovered around him like prey while he tried his best not to move. Sweat trickled down his face as he panicked to find a solution.

Before he could act on his "genius solution," the hovering cubes moved toward him. In an instant, the cubes gently tapped his body before quickly hovering away as if nothing had happened, making for an anti-climactic scene that puzzled many.

The man in the brightly colored suit sighed in relief before quickly glancing around. He immediately decided to give a victory speech, feeling like a hero in some sort of movie.

But as quickly as that thought surfaced it was replaced by the hellish pain radiating from his arm. His face promptly contorted in agony, as the pain ravished his body. He was completely confused as there was no sign of injury or damage on his body, yet the pain felt just as real as ever.

''AAAAAAAA!!!!'' he began to yell in pain, his body slowly feeling numb as the pain became unbearable.

The crowd that stood around him quickly dispersed; it didn't take a genius to realize what was going on. Many began fighting the cubes that were approaching them with malevolent intent with their fantastic superhuman abilities while others hid from the hovering cubes.

The man in the brightly colored outfit lay lifeless on the ground before promptly twitching and shaking violently without warning. As his body twitching and shook another strange development took place; purple goo began pouring out of every orifice until his body was completely blanketed by it.

Underneath the purple goo, the human body forcefully went under a transformation; the biological component of the human body was rewritten and reshaped into an almost soulless hovering cube that immediately burst out of the goo blanketing it, to join the other cubes in torment the humans.

'' Just a single tap is fatal….'' Max sighed as he made his thoughts clear to the others.

The four instantly activated their abilities once it was clear the tiny purple cubes were more dangerous than they let on.

Max smiled at their readiness; there was no need to worry about them as they could stand on their own. This was the best team he thought with a smirk before equipping his weapon.

He smiled once more as he gripped his stick tightly awaiting the enemy's attack with his bravery and confidence on full display.
