134. It doesn't matter (Jude's POV)

Could it be that under the house had been no remains, but a living person instead? I have absolute confidence that my father would be able to lock someone up alive.

My mother would definitely be more disturbed by finding a living person, a locked-up mistress in the cellar, than finding a charcoal body.

It would be a pity if this person had died in the fire. A real pity. She would have been the perfect witness to bring my father to prison forever.

But I can't change the fact that this house had burned down, that we were on the run, that whatever was in the house, most probably suffocated to death.

No, wait.

My heart skipped a beat and I felt my hands tremoring.

We don't know for sure if Liliana is Lesly's mother; it could be the other twin as well. Was it possible that I killed the bird's mother, someone innocent, with my own hands?

No.

I leaned back and closed my eyes, looking up. Trying to calm down.
