133. Test (Jude's POV)

I went to work after talking to the bird; first I got the backdoor ready. I secured it with wood from the inside and the outside. Then I worked on the windows as well, interrupting to care for the bird while my heart hammered in my chest every time my eyes fell to her lips.

Her eyesight got better; what would she do? How would she react? I couldn't wait for her to recover; I couldn't imagine. So damn curious.

I also asked her if she would come with me tomorrow, knowing already that she would nod like the little, polite bird she was.

Tomorrow is a big day for us. We wouldn't get the results, but taking the DNA test would show us if we were related. If my father really married his own daughter... well, there are already enough reasons why he should die; giving me a new one was nothing that would change anything.

But I could never, and I will never, be a brother to the bird in this lifetime.
