Some passersby recognized Kate, and soon they were all taking out their phones to snap photos.
"It seems we should finish up quickly and head out," Kate remarked with a hint of regret.
Ivy covered her face, too embarrassed to face the crowd. She whispered, "Then you need to get me out of here first."
Kate placed a supportive hand on Ivy's back, allowing her to wrap her arms around Kate's neck. With ease, she lifted Ivy out of the shopping cart.
Ivy felt utterly exposed, wishing she could disappear. She retrieved a baseball cap she'd tossed into the cart earlier, pulled it over her head, and lowered the brim.
As a minor celebrity, she thought no one would recognize her.
Just then, an excited male voice shouted, "Is that Ivy Green? Ivy!"
The volume was so loud that everyone nearby now knew Ivy had been riding in a shopping cart pushed by Kate.
Ivy kept her head down, clinging to Kate's arm, her face beneath the mask burning hot.
