"Ah?" Ivy was momentarily confused. Hadn't she just been chatting with Kate? Who else could she have been talking to here?
Kate didn't let it slide as she might have before when Ivy didn't understand. She continued, "You were looking at your phone just now."
"Oh, you mean while we were in line," Ivy replied honestly. "It was Sophia—I was asking her something."
But as she finished her sentence, the ride started. The mechanical noises and the screams of those around them drowned out her words.
Kate didn't catch Ivy's final answer. She pressed her lips together, a hint of frustration flickering in her eyes.
"Wow! Ah!" Ivy was quickly overwhelmed by the exhilarating sensations high above. She gripped the safety bar tightly, thinking that with this momentum, if they were flung out, they might not become "star-crossed lovers" after all—they'd likely be thrown in opposite directions.
