Chapter- 34 : Beast Magic

"Now for the second battle of the copper rank, we call the fighter no. 3 and 4!"

On the calling of the host, Ian and his opponent entered the fighting ring.

It's a field type ring with natural terrain. There are rocks and grass on the ground and even a small pound in one corner.

It's to give a fair chance to fighters of all attributes to fight at their best.

"We have, with 3 wins and 1 losses the fighter no. 3, the 'Echo'!"

"And his opponent is with 6 wins and 3 losses, fighter no. 4, the 'Orangutan'!"

Yep, they have weird nicknames, because according to the rules there shouldn't be two or more people with the same name registered in the same battle arena.

Which means you can't choose a name that is already registered in the battle arena of the city you are registering in.

The names are recorded in alphabetical orders so even without the technology of the modern world, battle arenas can easily manage them.

In case two or more fighters from different cities but the same name appear in a fight at the same time then the name of their registered cities are used along with their names.

"Both sides get ready!....the battle begins!"

Both Ian and his opponent took a fighting stance.

Ian has a magic staff in his right hand. The head of the staff has a unique design that looks like a bell. It's a customized staff for sound type magic users.

On the other hand, his opponent Orangutan who is a bulky guy, looks to be in his twenties, is wearing gauntlets on his both arms.

Most of the copper rank fighters are around the same age as this guy, and it's rare to encounter anyone around our age here.

I wonder what kind of power this orangutan has to use these gauntlets. Maybe he is a martial artist?

Next moment, a faint energy light was released from the body of Orangutan, that should be his mana. The mana surrounded his upper body and took the form of some gorilla-like beast.

Magic core ability? No...it's beast magic!

Beast Magic is a magic attribute that allows the user to manipulate their mana to give them beast-like traits and powers. Unlike normal elemental attributes, beast magic enhances the physical capabilities of the user.

Although the origin of how this magic attribute appeared in humans is unknown, most researchers believe that it's due to the magic cores that the person's ancestors had absorbed.

"So Orangutan is the name of his beast magic?"

"Yeah it looks like it. If I am not wrong then it should be a Heavy Orangutan"

I answered Elena's question as I took a closer look at the battle with my 'Horizon Eye'.

The first one to make a move was Orangutan, he rushed towards Ian and threw his right fist engulfed in mana at him.

Ian evoked his first spell, a faint white light is released from the head of his magic staff and turns into a barrier which blocks his opponent's punch. it's not a sound type spell but a barrier magic, his second attribute.

"Break!"

The Orangutan guy let out a loud shout as the shadow of Heavy Orangutan on his upper body became more realistic and his strength seems to be increased.

*crack*

With a cracking sound, the barrier got shattered but fortunately, Ian has already created some distance between them as he cast another spell.

An invisible sound wave is released from the 'Bell' part of Ian's magic staff and it halted the advance of Orangutan and even made him take a step back.

'Sonicwave' a semi-defence type spell.

Ian didn't stop there as he pulled back his staff and gathered energy on its 'Bell' then he made a thrusting motion like using a spear.

A concentrated wave of sound is released from the 'Bell' in the direction of his opponent.

'Sonic Blast' single target offensive version of 'Sonicwave'.

"Roar!"

But his opponent didn't remain idle either, he let out a gorilla-like roar. Orangutan's body shines with yellow light as the shadow of a gorilla flashed behind him for a second and merged with his body.

He blocked the 'sonic blast' by using his big arms to cover his face and upper body.

"Magic core skill! I think Ian is in trouble"

Elena said with some surprise.

It's rare to see a magic core skill in copper rank fighters, on the other hand almost every silver rank fighter has magic core skill.

"Nothing to worry, if it has been any other type of opponent then Ian may have struggled but against an opponent who fights in close combat, Ian has a big advantage"

Magic core ability might be rare among copper rank but it's not so rare among noble kids, as long as Ian can use his magic core ability, he can win.

In my battle against Ray that day, I didn't give him a chance to use his magic core ability, otherwise the battle had lasted a little longer.

After blocking the 'Sonic Blast' attack with his arms, the orangutan moved forward in a rapid pace.

On the other hand, Ian kept retreating while using 'Barrier' to block Orangutan's attacks.

*crack* *crack* *crack*

With enhanced power provided by his magic core ability, the Orangutan kept breaking the barriers. Ian's barrier magic is not very strong to begin with, his real forte is sound magic.

Orangutan rapidly closed the distance between the two, and as soon as he got near Ian he caught Ian's staff with his left hand and was ready to punch him with the right hand.

𝘏𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘵! 𝘐𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨.

The moment Orangutan caught Ian's staff and was ready to attack him, a faint shadow of a human size bat flashed on Ian's body.

"SCREECH!"

The next moment, Ian let out a horrific shriek directly towards Orangutan's face.

'Hellish Shriek' Ian's magic core ability that he got from a 'Hell Bat'. This ability can make the opponent temporarily confused in addition to sharply decreasing their mental defense.

Though the ability is strong and very useful, it has some limitations like limited range and accuracy because of which it can't be carelessly used.

But once hit, unless the opponent's mental strength is much stronger than the user, they will have to suffer under it.

"Aaaah!"

Ian's opponent, Orangutan let out a painful cry and held his head in pain, the attack definitely worked on him as he stumble around in confusion.

After getting his magic staff free from Orangutan's hands, Ian casts his next spell without any break.

A low continuous sound wave is released from the 'Bell' and it makes Orangutan, struggle more in pain.

'Sonic Suppression' a control type magic spell, opponents with weak mental strength can't resist. It's a perfect combo with his 'Hellish Shriek'.

"Aah! Stop..it! I gi...give up!"

Finally, Orangutan admitted defeat after suffering under the 'Sonic Suppression' for a few minutes.

"Orangutan quite the battle! The winner is Echo!"
