Chapter 230: Yuxie’s Thoughts

The sun set, and night fell.

Lights began to glow on the streets of Inazuma City, twinkling like stars in the sky, just as bright and dazzling.

The news of the war's end had spread throughout Inazuma, and people could be seen everywhere discussing the matter. On their faces, there was an unfamiliar smile, one that had not been seen for a long time.

No one wanted the war to continue, especially the common people.

Yuxie and Chiyo walked side by side on such a street, feeling the atmosphere of the moment.

Chiyo intentionally slowed her pace, and Yuxie had no choice but to follow her rhythm.

The road to the Kitsune Saiguu Palace was one that Chiyo had walked many times before, and she was familiar with every street layout in Inazuma City.

When walking alone, one always thinks about moving faster, not wanting to waste time on the road.

But today, she wanted to slow down, even slower, and wished the road could be a little longer.

Since Yuxie came to Inazuma, this was the first time Chiyo had been alone with him.

Looking back at the events from hundreds of years ago, they all seemed so vivid, as if they had happened just yesterday.

"Yuxie, in the past, I almost lost my sanity due to the influence of the abyssal beasts," Chiyo slowly began, paying close attention to Yuxie's subtle expressions.

Though she knew that Yuxie no longer remembered the past, a small, unrealistic hope still lingered in her heart — that perhaps Yuxie remembered something, even if it was just the smallest of details.

"When I had given up on myself, it was you who didn't give up on me. It was you who saved me," Chiyo continued in a calm tone.

Yuxie turned his head to look at Chiyo, pausing for a moment.

Of course, he couldn't recall the past. For him, the memories were like something sealed away and thrown into the deep trench of the sea, perhaps never to be found again. But he could feel the meaning behind Chiyo's words.

Chiyo hadn't lost her sanity because of him. Kitsune Saiguu hadn't fallen to protect Narukami Island because of him. Makoto hadn't died on the khaenri'ah war, again, because of him.

The actions he had taken in the past, the seeds he had sown, had all borne fruit in this lifetime.

"I used to want to thank you, but you always said there was no need to say thank you," Chiyo continued. "But I still want to say it now, Yuxie... thank you. If it weren't for you, I probably would have become a wild beast without reason, with no home and no friends."

"Even if you turned into a beast, I would still bring you back," Yuxie blurted out instinctively, without much thought.

As his words fell, a gentle breeze brushed past, making Chiyo's long hair dance in the wind. On her face—recognized even by Kitsune Saiguu for its beauty—a rare blush of shyness appeared.

Chiyo turned her face away to avoid Yuxie's gaze, listening to the sound of her own quickening heartbeat.

Yuxie wasn't sure what had come over him either. The words had just slipped out, as though his subconscious had urged him to say them.

"Th-thank you..." Chiyo said softly, her voice barely audible. "Let's hurry on..."

Perhaps out of embarrassment, Chiyo unconsciously quickened her pace.

.......

After dinner.

Chiyo and Kitsune Saiguu came to a corner of the courtyard, standing in front of a pond and gazing at the crescent moon reflected in the water.

"Chiyo, you've made up your mind, haven't you?" Kitsune Saiguu asked softly.

"Yes, I decided a long time ago. I assume you have too?" Chiyo responded before posing the question in return.

Kitsune Saiguu smiled without answering, but the answer was already clear.

Some things had been decided centuries ago, though no one had brought them up at the time.

"So, does that make us rivals now?" Kitsune Saiguu asked, raising her eyebrows slightly.

Chiyo turned to look at Kitsune Saiguu. This time, it was her turn to smile silently.

Seeing this, Kitsune Saiguu chuckled softly and then said:

"Or perhaps, we don't have to be rivals. If possible, we could consider each other as sisters. What do you think?"

"You mean..." Chiyo hesitated briefly.

"Do I need to spell it out?" Kitsune Saiguu smiled meaningfully.

"No need, I think I understand..." Chiyo hurriedly interrupted, but then seemed to think of something. "But... has anyone asked Yuxie what he thinks?"

The question brought a sudden quiet to the scene.

The moonlight was bright, and a gentle night breeze swept by.

Only then did Kitsune Saiguu realize that, all along, everyone seemed to have overlooked Yuxie's feelings.

It was undeniable that the Yuxie of the past had countless connections with everyone, filled with unforgettable memories.

But Yuxie no longer remembered those things, and for the current Yuxie, too much enthusiasm might only add unnecessary pressure.

"Then... how about we... go ask him?" Kitsune Saiguu suggested tentatively.

"...Let's go!" After some thought, Chiyo nodded firmly.

The night was quiet, silver moonlight shining outside the window, and a gentle night breeze blowing softly.

Yuxie sat in his room, pondering what to do next during his time in Inazuma.

His main purpose in coming to Inazuma had been to change Rosalyne's fate. Now that the goal had been accomplished, perhaps it was time to leave.

But he couldn't shake the feeling that there were still many things left undone.

Just as Yuxie was deep in thought, the sound of footsteps came clearly from outside the door. Judging by the sound, it wasn't just one person.

"Yuxie—" Kitsune Saiguu's voice called out from outside.

Yuxie set aside his thoughts for the moment, walked to the door, and opened it.

Although he had heard two sets of footsteps, seeing Chiyo accompanying Kitsune Saiguu still surprised him slightly.

"What's... going on?"

"Well... we have something we want to ask you," Kitsune Saiguu said.

"Come in and let's talk," Yuxie replied.

The three of them entered the room and sat down.

"What do you want to ask me?" Yuxie glanced at Kitsune Saiguu and Chiyo.

"Chiyo, why don't you say it?" The usually playful and outspoken Kitsune Saiguu seemed unusually nervous and hesitant at this moment.

"Me?" Chiyo froze for a moment, then quickly waved her hand. "You should say it. I can't bring myself to say it... You know I'm not the kind of person who's good at talking about things like this."

"I..." Kitsune Saiguu looked at Chiyo, then at Yuxie, falling into silence.

Their behavior made Yuxie's mind fill with question marks, unsure of what was going on.

"If there's something to say, just say it. No need to beat around the bush," Yuxie said.

"Then... should I really say it?" Kitsune Saiguu looked at Yuxie.

"Please go ahead, Miss Kitsune Saiguu." Yuxie made a gesture as if inviting her to speak, half-jokingly.

"Ahem..." Kitsune Saiguu cleared her throat and slowly began, her voice very soft. "Well, Yuxie... you—"

Knock, knock, knock. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
