Chapter 232: Yae Publishing House and Light Novels

On the empty street, Rosalyne walked alone, with Yu Xie watching her figure gradually disappear into the distance.

Rosalyne didn't look back; she couldn't bring herself to.

There was both a sense of relief and reluctance. She feared that if she turned around, her reluctance would take over.

But she had to leave; she couldn't stay here forever.

In the quiet of the night, her footsteps were unusually clear.

Even though she didn't look back, she could still feel Yu Xie's gaze on her.

At a corner, she paused, hesitating for a moment, before finally turning around.

Through the deep night, their eyes met, just as they had centuries ago.

She gave a soft smile, then turned and walked around the corner, her figure disappearing from Yu Xie's sight.

"We'll meet in Mondstadt," the night wind seemed to carry Rosalyne's whisper.

"Yeah, in Mondstadt," Yu Xie responded quietly.

...

The next day.

The sunlight was just right.

Today's sunlight wasn't as harsh as before, and the breeze blowing through Inazuma City seemed to bring a refreshing coolness to the bustling streets.

After breakfast, Yu Xie and Shen He went to the Grand Narukami Shrine.

As they walked up the mountain, Yu Xie looked at the scenery around them and the view of the city below. A strange sense of familiarity filled his heart.

Unfortunately, it wasn't the season for cherry blossoms, and the cherry blossoms trees on the slopes of Mt. Yougou weren't in full bloom, their pink flowers yet to appear.

But the scenery of the mountain was still breathtaking.

The breeze was constant, and the flowers, grasses, and tree branches swayed gently. Birds flitted through the tree branches, squirrels darted across the ground, and the chirping of insects sounded like a pleasant melody.

For Shen He, who had grown up in the mountains, the environment felt incredibly familiar and comforting.

As time passed, Yu Xie and Shen He reached the summit. They walked through a stone path beneath a row of torii gates, and before them stood Inazuma's largest shrine—the Grand Narukami Shrine.

At the same time, the massive Sacred Cherry Blossoms Tree came into view.

This tree, which bloomed with cherry blossoms even outside of the peak season, had become a symbol of Inazuma.

Yu Xie and Shen He looked at the Sacred Cherry Blossoms Tree, then exchanged a glance before walking forward together.

The Grand Narukami Shrine was as busy as ever.

The shrine maidens were bustling about, and those who had come to seek divine guidance or omens were either happy or troubled.

A few of the shrine maidens noticed Yu Xie and Shen He. They initially approached to offer help, but upon seeing Yu Xie's face, they froze in place, looking surprised. After a brief moment, they hurriedly turned and left, as if there was something urgent they needed to attend to.

Yu Xie and Shen He also noticed the strange behavior of some of the shrine maidens, but neither of them paid it much attention and continued walking straight to the Sacred Cherry Blossoms Tree.

Pink cherry blossoms fluttered in the wind, one petal landing on Yu Xie's shoulder and another quietly falling into Shen He's hair.

Yu Xie said nothing, but gently reached out to brush the petal from Shen He's hair, and Shen He did the same, removing the petal from his shoulder.

They seemed like a perfectly matched pair.

Then, Yu Xie looked up and closely examined the massive cherry blossom tree.

Perhaps it was due to the personal preferences of the one who took care of the tree, but the trunk of the tree looked somewhat like a fox.

Yu Xie didn't find this strange, but what did catch his attention was the indescribable, unique feeling he sensed from the tree.

It was as if the tree contained a power and aura similar to his own, just as Shen He had mentioned earlier.

Tap—tap— The sound of footsteps echoed.

Yu Xie and Shen He both turned to look. The current head priest of the Grand Narukami Shrine and a shrine maiden were walking toward them at a leisurely pace.

"Yu Xie, and Miss Shen He, you two should have told me you were coming! I would have prepared to welcome you," Yae Miko said with a cheerful expression.

"We're not leaders or anything, we just came to visit the Grand Narukami Shrine. No need for any special reception," Yu Xie said with a smile, casually glancing at the shrine maiden beside Yae Miko—the same one who had looked surprised when she saw him earlier.

"Go ahead and take care of your duties," Yae Miko said to the shrine maiden.

"Yes, Head Priest," the shrine maiden bowed and left.

The wind blew across the top of Mt. Yougou, through the Grand Narukami Shrine, and rustled the branches of the Sacred Cherry Blossoms Tree.

The pink cherry blossom petals fluttered in the wind, resembling pink snow from afar.

Yae Miko reached out and caught a falling petal, inspecting it carefully before letting it drift away with the breeze.

"Years ago, Yu Xie, you poured your last bit of life force into a cherry tree seed, and from that, the Sacred Cherry Blossoms Tree that blooms year-round was born."

Upon hearing this, Yu Xie didn't feel any sudden realization. Instead, he felt calm, as if everything were simply natural.

Shen He, however, reached out to catch a falling petal, carefully keeping it. "No wonder it carries your aura, Yu Xie."

"This Sacred Cherry Blossoms Tree grew at an astonishing speed. Overnight, it became a stunning sight, shocking all of Inazuma and becoming a well-known landmark, just like your own fame at that time, Yu Xie." Yae Miko looked at Yu Xie with a gaze full of tenderness.

Shen He noticed Yae Miko's unusual gaze, but she said nothing and did nothing, merely silently taking note of it.

"Ah, by the way, I remember that many novelists adapted your story, Yu Xie, and wrote many wonderful light novels about it," Yae Miko smiled as she looked at him. "It was from this that I got the idea to found Yae Publishing House."

This did surprise Yu Xie a little; he hadn't expected the creation of Yae Publishing House to be traced back to him.

"Would you like to hear what those novels were about?" Yae Miko's smile subtly changed, carrying a different meaning.

Yu Xie suddenly had a bad feeling, and just as he was about to shake his head and politely decline, Shen He spoke up first.

"Lady Yae Miko, do you have time to tell us now? I'd like to hear it," Shen He said seriously.

"Of course," Yae Miko smiled, thinking for a moment. "Let me see, which one should I tell?"

"How about we skip it for today? Don't you still have work to do, Yae Miko?" Yu Xie tried to change the subject.

"It's fine, today's work isn't too much," Yae Miko replied, her smile never fading. "I'll just tell you one that left a deep impression on me."

"A novelist wrote it like this—

'The general, with the body of a mortal, saves the gods, and eventually captures the heart of a deity, living a carefree life with the god.'

"This one is more focused on daily life. Though the plot is lively and interesting, and the author's writing is quite good, it's not really to my liking."

"My favorite is My Fox Priestess, which tells the story of the legendary general and the fox priestess with pink hair, who spend every day together and eventually fall in love, retiring to the mountains to live in seclusion."

"And then..."

"Sounds like... there's always a romance involved," Yu Xie interrupted Yae Miko, unable to help feeling a strange sense of 'embarrassment.'

"Young readers love romance, so authors have to write to suit the market," Yae Miko said.

"..." Yu Xie fell silent for a moment, mostly because the feeling of 'embarrassment' made him unsure how to continue the conversation.

Meanwhile, Shen He looked thoughtful.
