The breaking point

Soren

Against my better judgment, I went back to Leon's office the next day.

Even after reconciling with Rowan, I still felt like I needed to do something about it. If Leon could do such a thing like that to make the mafia suspect me, that could get me killed.

This wasn't about stubbornness, I needed to be alive to protect my legacy even if that means liaison with the devil himself.

I knew it was a mistake the moment I walked in. The smug expression on his face, the way he stood up and clapped me on the back like we were old friends. It made my skin crawl.

"There he is," he said, grinning. "I knew you'd make the right decision."

I shrugged off his touch. "Cut the bullshit. Just tell me what you want."

He smirked. "Nothing for now." He leaned against his desk, arms crossed. "I'll help you. No strings attached… for now. But you'll owe me a favor."

I clenched my jaw. "And when exactly do you plan on collecting this favor?"
