The last cry

I walked into the meeting chamber late, deliberately so. If they wanted to bark like rabid dogs before I arrived, I'd let them. The moment I stepped in, every eye turned to me. The energy in the room was thick with hostility.

I decided that I was already their enemy before anything so it didn't matter what I do or would do, they will not take anything but their own version of the story.

"Look who finally decided to show up," Cale sneered, arms crossed over his chest. "Do you think because you run your own little empire, you can do whatever the hell you want?"

"Not just that," another alpha added. "You act like you're untouchable. Like we should be honored you even grace us with your presence."

Murmurs of agreement echoed through the chamber. I sighed, barely resisting the urge to roll my eyes.

"I had a meeting," I said, voice even.
