The vanishing act

Rowan looked at me, exhaustion in his eyes. "Soren, I appreciate you checking on me, but I don't need either of you arguing over me like I'm a damn prize to be won."

Adrian chuckled. "Well, if I were competing, I'd say I'm in the lead."

I shot up from my chair so fast it nearly fell over. "You want to test that theory?"

"Soren!" Rowan snapped.

I forced myself to take a deep breath, rolling my shoulders back.

The assholr, still as smug as ever, stood up as well. "I should get going. But Rowan," he turned to him with a softer smile, "I'll check in again soon, alright?"

He nodded. "Thanks, Adrian."

He shot me one last victorious smirk before sauntering out of the room.

I turned to Rowan the second the door closed. "Are you seriously letting him cozy up to you like that?"

He gave me a flat look. "Soren, don't start."

I crossed my arms. "He's clearly interested in you."
