Hello again

Soren

I stood there, motionless, staring at the space where Rowan had disappeared.

The world around me was still alive, embers flickering from the burning warehouse, the scent of blood thick in the air, mafia soldiers moving like shadows but none of it mattered.

Because I had lost him.

I had always imagined losing Rowan would come in some grand, tragic way, a gunfight, a mission gone wrong, something out of our control. But this? This was my fault. I had dug my own grave, shoved him inside, and now I was left to bury myself in the wreckage.

I was a terrible person. I knew if anyone else did that to me, they would be six feet below. But this? I was surprised.

Rowan let me go, he didn't kill me like I expected him to.

The lump in my throat burned, but I didn't care.
