Incredible Instincts

Dr. Emmanuel Michelson, after a decade of intensive training, was now classified as a 'SSS class', the highest rank in the secret service and spy agencies.

Although he still had a lean, less bulky appearance, his very body could now be considered a lethal weapon, not to talk of his advanced proficiency in handling a wide assortments of weapons. In addition to his intelligence, he was a force to be reckoned with.

The timeline he had set had finally elapsed and it was finally time for him to personally make a move.

The time had come for him to make contact with his protégé.

After organizing himself and loading his sleek new customized BMW X7 truck with the necessary equipment, he set off towards the mountains.

After hours of non-stop driving, he arrived at the mountain range. He drove past several mountains; taking the long way in order to observe the crater for himself.

After he was satisfied with what he saw, he continued on his journey until he was alerted that he was close to the designated coordinates.

He hid the car behind a cover of rock ledges and walked a quarter mile to a hedge of rocks.

"Now little Samuel, let me see for myself the embodiment of my ideal", he said as he observed the target house through his high-spec hub binoculars and waited.

He didn't have to wait too long as, after a few minutes of observing, he saw something that made his heart beat with excitement.

The little 'boy' came out of the house followed by his mother and little sister. He had huge, red, eight-feet long leather-like wings connected to both sides of his back as well as a long strong-looking tail that seemed to have a mind of its own.

"This is interesting, initial reports said he had feathery wings. I wonder if they molted, or probably mutated", Emmanuel mumbled questioningly to himself as he continued observing.

Samuel's mom kissed him on the cheek and he smiled brightly in response. He then turned, picked up his little sister and twirled her around.

She cried out in excitement as she was spun around by her brother. Samuel then hugged her before setting her down.

He spread his wings out and, with a few beats, flew into the sky, disappearing behind the mountains.

"Excellent, there is no observable physical change in the mother, and the sister appears to be a regular human. His relationship with his family is also quite good. This matches up with all the reports so far", Emmanuel mumbled as he noted down all his observations on his tablet.

Soon, another lady came out of the house dressed in maid regalia. She looked young, appearing to be in her early or mid thirties.

The maid hummed as she slowly walked up a nearby hill to pick berries from the family's garden to make snacks.

She reached the top of the hill and began to pick the berries with a hum. After picking enough, she turned to leave but she slipped, due to her poor footing, and began rolling down the slope screaming.

She barrel-rolled down the hill, quickly approaching its rocky base. Out of nowhere, Samuel swooped in and grabbed her.

She was so grateful that she strangled him in a hug and blew him a kiss on the cheek.

"His senses are amazing. Even without proper training, his speed and reaction time is quite incredible. Must be his instinct as a territorial flying creature", Emmanuel noted.

Samuel giggled and blushed as he was showered with kisses. His ears twitched suddenly as he quickly turned around and stared in a particular direction.

"What's wrong?" Betty asked stunned by his sudden action. "I thought I felt someone's gaze on us", he said.

"Really? Who could it be?!" she asked in alert as she looked around as well. "I'm not sure, I probably just imagined it", he stated as he took another look around and not seeing anything.

"Anyway, what would you like for dinner tonight? I'll prepare anything you want", she suddenly declared, changing the topic. "Really? Anything I want?" he asked excitedly.

"Of course! I'm going to prepare any meal you want. I'm going to demonstrate my top-chef ability to you today", she proclaimed smugly.

"Meat!!" he shouted back without hesitation. "As usual I see. Very well! Tonight, we'll have a meat-themed dinner", she announced.

"Yay!!", he shouted, beaming with glee as he followed her into the house.

Reaching the doorway, he stopped, turned and took one last look at where he sensed the gaze.

He activated his enhanced eyesight and scanned the entire area. "I must be imagining it", he said to himself as he entered the house and closed the door.

"He's amazing. I completely underestimated his natural instincts; they are incredible. Even with my stealth skill he still managed to sense my presence", Emmanuel said from behind the rock he had dove behind to escape being discovered.

"He was able to sense me even from a mile away. He is something special alright", he said as he stood up and dusted himself off while still being completely amazed with the natural animalistic instincts the boy possessed alongside his human intelligence.

With his initial observation done, he moved back to his car and drove to a very partially hollow mountain he had discovered months ago.

The mountain was a few miles away from the Griffins; hence, close enough to monitor the family, but not so close as to be easily noticed.

The entire mountain stretched out for a quarter mile in each direction from the center.

"Time to go to work", he said as he walked to the trunk of his car and opened it. He proceeded to unload several dozen, large and heavy metallic crates unto the ground.

The crates were no bigger than the average large-sized travelling suitcase, with several grooves etched on them.

He placed the crates down, lining them all up and took a few steps back. He took a deep breath and shouted, "Activate!!"

The several dozen boxes hummed suddenly and came to life. Each box opened up gradually into a robot-like contraption with multiple limbs.

Each machine had its own specialty equipment attached to each limb but there were several pairs that had similar attachments.

The machines were now roughly nine feet in height and were made up of a shape memory alloy developed by fellow researchers in Japan.

The machines were designed by the Sienna Technological Research Institute to be used for rescue and emergency response operations in case of natural and or artificial disasters.

They had been used several times and the mortality rates of the several states and countries that were victims of those disasters, had been reduced greatly over time.

Emmanuel, using his authority as director of the Sienna Institute for Genetic Research and Analysis, acquired, customized and reprogrammed a few of these machines for the purpose of carving out and building a state-of-the-art laboratory and living quarters within the mountain without disturbing the mountain's surrounding ecosystem.
