Chapter 186: Conflict

James Brown ignored the two of them and, with a smile, said to Sunny Nguyen, "Sunny, come, let's eat. If they want to argue, let them be. We'll focus on our meal."

Sunny Nguyen chuckled lightly and sat opposite James Brown, burying her head in her food.

Once James had made that comment, Gina and Emily stopped talking and also lowered their heads to eat, granting James some peace for his ears.

However, it wasn't long before someone stepped on his left foot. He tried to pull it back, and though he succeeded, his slipper was left behind, trapped under the offending foot, which promptly followed his retreat—in a clear sign of deliberate mischief.

It was a hot day, and while James had been wearing leather shoes with socks for work, he had dressed casually at Gina's house. After all, he'd lived there for a while, so he had simply taken off his socks and was now barefoot.
